Smart Money Kids Read 2027 is now accepting free book requests for April 2027 story times!
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 21 Sep '26

Smart Money Kids Read 2027 is now accepting free book requests for April 2027 story times! Hello Library friends, After reviewing feedback from our 2026 participating librarians, our 2027 book will be a new book from an 8-year-old Michigan author: Madeline's Money Adventure! Story overview: Madeline has her eye on the perfect sparkly unicorn but there's just one problem...she doesn't have enough money in her piggy bank. Instead of giving up, Madeline gets creative! She walks dogs, washes cars and provides other services to earn money. She learns about budgeting, saving, and spending, with a dash of kindness thrown in. Madeline's Money Adventure includes Spanish translation on each page, and illustrations that allow for additional teaching to occur for older children while keeping the storyline simple enough for our youngest learners to grasp the salient points. Libraries interested in receiving free books for Financial Literacy Month story times (April) should complete the online request form<https://forms.gle/5AUVQ6rJYRbwZig29>: https://forms.gle/5AUVQ6rJYRbwZig29 Questions about the Smart Money Kids Read program should be directed to Kelly Masters, Michigan Financial Wellness Network, MiFinancialWellness(a)gmail.com<mailto:MiFinancialWellness@gmail.com>

In our current society, everyday interactions can feel charged and volatile, and library staff too often feel unprepared and worried. The key to handling these situations is not to avoid them or hope they never happen, but to find methods of meeting each moment without losing resolve. In this practical and engaging hands-on workshop, library staff will learn techniques to be their best selves when nerve-wracking situations occur with patrons or coworkers and be better equipped to calmly handle daily upsets and find greater satisfaction in their work lives. We’ll discuss techniques for staying cool, calm, and empathetic and participants will have time to prepare and practice their responses to true-to-life scenarios. TWO sessions to choose from! Library interior design
by Bob Barringer 21 Sep '26

21 Sep '26

Hi, all. I know this has been asked more than once (and the last time was not that long ago), but I didn't know I was interested back then. I have been made aware of my interest. Other than Library Design, what designers, tools, methods, processes, and/or sources have you used for a fairly thorough front desk/reading room re-design? Thanks, Bob Bob Barringer, PhD Director The Schultz-Holmes District Library 407 S. Lane St. Blissfield, MI 49228 517-486-2858 blissfieldlibrary.org Facebook: @blisslibrary

Digital Image Programs Available for Public Libraries & Community Groups - 2026-2027
by Corey Seeman 19 Sep '26

19 Sep '26

Hi everyone - I hope you are well. I am just writing to share booking information for my library digital image programs that are for public libraries, community groups and other related organizations. I can present these sessions both in-person or virtually for libraries and cultural/community organizations in Michigan and elsewhere. I offer these at no charge to libraries. Since I am in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area, I can present in person at your library or facility if it is relatively close (45 minutes) from my home. For in-person programs further away, I will ask for mileage only (I am using half the Federal rate of 76 cents per mile). There is no charge for virtual programs. Here is a form to request booking (or you can write me at coreyseeman(a)gmail.com) https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/program-booking-informati…. At present, I am really booking for anytime - so I'm late for Fall and Winter, but possibly early for Spring and Summer next year. Currently, there are six programs available: Managing Digital Images: Finding, Saving, Sharing and Organizing The Pictures of Your Life! https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/managing-digital-images Description: This program will introduce you to photo sharing services that are available from companies such as Google, Apple, facebook and flickr (among others) and how to organize them for easy retrieval. We will look at ways to organize, backup and share pictures with friends and family. The Ever-present Camera: Understanding Photography On Your Smartphone https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/everpresent-camera Description: This program is designed to provide an overview of smartphone photography, storage and some best practices so you can make the best use out of this amazing tool. The Bag on the Beach: Artificial Intelligence and Photo Organization - Opportunities and Limitations https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/bag-on-the-beach Description: This program is designed to showcase how artificial intelligence (especially those connected with smartphone providers) may be used to help organize your images. We will look at some of the instances where it might not be able to do what you might want. Into the Wild & Back Home Again: Park, Wildlife, and Landmark Photography in Michigan https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/into-the-wild-michigan Description: Using the state of Michigan as both my muse and my subject, I will share some of my favorite locations for photography and day trips. A local spot for photography is fantastic because you can capture at different times of the day or during different seasons. Wish You Were Here: Some Brief Notes on the History of Postcards https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/wish-you-were-here Description: In the years before the telephone and then the Internet transformed our communication systems, postcards were an efficient and fun way to connect with friends and family. This presentation shares the history of the postcard in the United States and beyond, while looking at many examples of the different types that were available to send. Capturing Our Natural World: Learning and Growing as a Photographer https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/capturing-our-natural-wor… Description: If you are fascinated by birds, wildlife, plants and trees, you might love nature photography! In this presentation, Corey Seeman will share his own journey and growth as a nature photographer while showcasing some ways to continually improve your craft. For more information on the programs including the current presentation slides, please visit my program page at: https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs I also have some ideas about future programs that would be available once they have been booked and I have enough time to iron them out (around six months). I have been thinking about pet photography and managing your vacation photos for starters. The initial descriptions are here - https://www.squirreldude.com/photography-programs/future-programs I've had lots of fun presenting on this topic and the programs have been well received. I would be happy to present to your community. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions. Please also share broadly to any parties that might be interested in these presentations.
