Hello Library Minds, We had a patron comment recently about how inconvenient it is to come into the library just to verify their account and sign paperwork. It really got me thinking about our process. Right now, we rely on a driver’s license in person to verify that a patron lives within our legal service area. I’d love to find a way to let patrons renew or verify their accounts entirely from home. Does your library use address verification software or another third-party tool to verify local addresses online? How do you handle remote account renewals? Friends Fundraiser Idea

Hello All, *I wanted to pass along a great idea that came from one of our library's Friends-* A few weeks ago, the President of the Library's Friends group hosted a yard sale and donated all the profits to the Friends of the Library. In total, she raised just under $1,400! She marketed the yard sale as a fundraiser, which helped spread the word. Instead of setting prices, she asked for payment via donation, encouraging more generous giving. She made the Friends' PayPal & Venmo QR codes available, in addition to accepting cash payments. This was a yard sale she was already planning on having, so it cost her no more time or effort than a typical yard sale. We were so impressed and excited by her idea and the amount she managed to raise. Hello, We have an opening for a full-time Youth & Teen Services Librarian. *AVAILABLE POSITION:* Youth & Teen Services Librarian *WORK SCHEDULE: * 40 hours per week; including evening and weekend hours *ANTICIPATED START DATE:* Monday, December 7, 2026 *PAY RATE:* Starting wage is $27.53 per hour, commensurate with experience. Benefits include health, dental, vision insurance; paid time off and sick leave; paid holidays; and life insurance. *POSITION SUMMARY:* Librarians are professionals with a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science. They have a broad range of assignments and responsibilities. This position is responsible for planning and executing services and programs for the Youth Services and Teen Services Departments of the public library, including materials selection, reference and readers’ advisory services, programming, outreach, and any other library-related work as required. I'm not affiliated with KDL other than I'm doing TWO workshops for them so I thought I'd toot my own horn and advertise the workshops! On Saturday 9/12 at KDL's Plainfield branch, I'm presenting on "Telling Your Story: Introduction to Websites, Newsletters, and Blogs." Scent-free workplace accommodations?

The city janitor put an air freshener in the library and I had a reaction - nothing major, but I know there are members of the public who could have more adverse reactions to something like that.
