Higher ed change research survey - closes soon!

Dear Higher Education Colleagues, A week ago, I reached out about a research study on change resistance and organizational paradox mindsets in higher education. If you've already completed the 10-mimute survey, thank you. Your participation is valuable. If you haven't yet completed it, there's still time. The survey closes in 7 days on April 7. SURVEY LINK: https://wmich.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_9uhFh4ZAy9xLG86 High-pressure decisions about how education institutions manage change are being made right now, decisions that would benefit from data that reflects the current experiences of people most affected by those (often contradictory) changes. This research aims to inform those decisions. As you take the survey, I encourage you to think about a specific change you've lived through at your institution: a reorganization, a leadership transition, a new initiative or technology, a new budget model. Your grounded, real-world perspective is what gives this research its value. Every response strengthens the findings and their usefulness to the field. The virtual event is free and open to all. The conference highlights student projects that engage critically with those responsibilities. The conference features a strong lineup of speakers with ties to Wayne State and the Detroit area. Travis Wagner, an assistant professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, will deliver the opening keynote. Wagner's research centers on critical information studies, queer archives and LGBTQIA+ advocacy. Mara Powell, university archivist at University of Detroit Mercy and a WSU alumna, will close the event. Powell oversees the UDM Black Abolitionist Archive and is also an independent filmmaker. The panel will be moderated by Librarian Damecia Donahue. Panelists include Dr. Meredith Evans, director of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum and a SIS alumna; Marcia Black, Co-Executive Director of the Black Bottom Archives and the Reuther Library instruction and outreach archivist whose work engages with Black queer archival theory; and Selena Aguilera, a community engagement librarian at Taylor Community Library, SIS alumna, and former Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Graduate Student Assistant.

The system includes four neighborhood branches-each with deep roots in their communities-and a bookmobile that expands access across the service area. At the heart of the system is the historic Hoyt Library, home to a well-regarded Local History and Genealogy department. With 37 FTE and a staff known for their dedication, the library provides a strong mix of physical and digital resources designed to serve Saginaw's diverse population. Programming spans all ages and interests, including well-established children's events like the First Grade Reading Celebrations, and a wide range of offerings that reflect and engage the community. The library enjoys public support and is recognized as a trusted institution within the city. Key initiatives for the next director include implementing and refining policies, fostering a collaborative internal culture that supports staff creativity, and leading the implementation and execution of a new strategic plan. Saginaw is located in Michigan's Great Lakes Bay region and is part of the Tri-Cities area, along with Midland and Bay City. Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will work closely with the Library Board to support effective governance; manage and administer a large, complex budget ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds; provide strategic vision and long-term planning for a library system serving diverse communities; lead the development and implementation of system-wide goals, policies and service priorities; serve as the primary public representative and spokesperson for the library; build strong partnerships with community organizations, schools, cultural institutions and government agencies; direct and oversee all library operations; establish and monitor performance metrics and service standards; lead, mentor and support a large, diverse workforce of professional, technical and support staff; oversee labor relations, organizational structure and succession planning; oversee facilities planning, capital projects and maintenance; and prepare reports, recommendations and policy proposals for board consideration.
