The Clinton-Macomb Public Library is looking to hire multiple new substitute librarians to work at any of our locations (Main Library: Adult Nonfiction, Children's Services, Popular Materials; North Branch Reference, South Branch Reference). This is also a great opportunity for students who are close to completion of their MSI degree and want an opportunity to gain field experience in a thriving public library. Wage: $20.10-$22.19 an hour Schedule: Variable, seven days a week, up to 20 hours per week Required Qualifications: * ALA-accredited MLS or substantial completion in an MLS program * Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of public library services * Ability to provide a high quality library service to customers of all ages * Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources * Familiarity with popular reading materials * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships at all levels * Ability to prioritize duties and tasks and work independently * Strong oral and written communication skills * Ability to work independently * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors and especially with the public * Ability and skill to adapt to changing procedures and situations Desired Qualifications: * Experience with library automation systems, especially Polaris * Full range of Internet skills and experience * Knowledge of online information resources, computers, software programs * High energy, self-motivation and ability to work in a fast-paced library For further information please refer to our posting at: http://www.cmpl.org/AboutUs/JobPostings/Posting%20Substitute%20Librarian%20… . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Beginning Workshop Registration Now Open

Registration for the 2014 Beginning Workshop is now open at http://www.solutionwhere.com/lom/cw/CourseByAlpha.asp. The Library of Michigan's Beginning Workshop is a 3-day event geared for library staff members that have not had the opportunity for formal library coursework. Its aim is to introduce library staff to a variety of topics and offer them practical skills that they can use working in a Michigan public library. Anyone new to the profession or just hired at a library, no matter what their academic credentials, is welcome to attend the event. For those seeking an initial Level 3 or Level 4 certificate from the Library of Michigan attendance at the entire Beginning Workshop is obligatory. The service offers best-sellers, mysteries, westerns, biographies, how-to books and other types of materials found in a public library. The only difference is that the books are recorded on cassette or printed in braille and will arrive at a patron's home via the regular U.S. postal service. Join BTBL staff members, Stephanie Wambaugh, Outreach Librarian and Betsie Bush, Recording Studio Coordinator, to learn about the services available to those having trouble reading print. This free webinar will provide information on: * Overview of BTBL * Information on eligibility for users * Services available * Collections * New flash type of devices used * What public libraries can do to promote the service Audio will be provided using Voice Over Internet Protocol, VoIP. 3D printers and fumes

Hi Everyone, We are investigating the environment needed to run a 3D printer. I've done some research and discovered issues with the fumes from the hot plastic and the fact that ultra fine particles are released into the air. I'm wondering if anyone else is currently using a 3D printer and how they have it setup? Specifically I'm interested in whether or not you use a fume extractor or ventilation system. Thanks!
