It does. -- William James ** YPSILANTI DISTRICT LIBRARY Job Posting: Computer Systems Technician (Full Time/40 hours per week) Date: April 21, 2017 The Ypsilanti District Library seeks an enthusiastic and experienced Computer Systems Technician with a strong commitment to public service excellence to join our team. Nature of Work/Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Technology Manager, the Computer Systems Technician performs routine tasks to support the technology needs of staff and patrons at all YDL facilities. Will work with PCs, tablets, printers, library automation, wi-fi, RFID, self-check, copier/faxes, A/V equipment, UPS systems, payment solutions, telephones and server room/data closet management. Duties include: * Install and maintain upgrades for computer software, hardware, and other peripheral equipment. * Provide end user help desk support for both staff and patrons. Assist staff in routine troubleshooting. * Assist with server maintenance, including backups, updates, and anti-virus software. * Provide secondary support to Technology Manager to monitor, analyze, and respond to system events and error logs as well as monitoring and troubleshooting network connectivity. * Develop and maintain inventory database for all Library equipment. * Develop documentation as needed. May write and revise user training manuals and procedures. * Evaluate technology to determine need for upgrades and new products, including hardware, software, and appropriate licensing and network agreements. * Collect, evaluate, and report on usage statistics and trends. * Effectively communicate technology-related problems and resolutions. Qualifications and Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in computer-related field preferred. * Working knowledge of wireless networks (laptop wireless settings) * Working knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy * Working knowledge of current MS operating systems and MS Office suites * Understanding of basic networking (TCIP/IP, DNS, DHCP) * Strong hardware troubleshooting skills and familiarity with remote support * Knowledge of antivirus software and malware remediation * Familiarity with imaging solutions * Web development skills desirable, working knowledge of Drupal a plus * Ability to maintain confidentiality * Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple tasks * Ability to function in a professional manner, work independently, and use good judgment * Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends * Excellent communication and organizational skills * Valid driver's license required Salary/ Benefits: $34,320 annual salary ($16.50/hr), and a comprehensive benefits package including generous paid time off, twelve paid holidays, family coverage for health, vision, and dental insurance, an employer contribution to retirement and a voluntary 457 plan. In order to build in an additional wow! factor, as well as to increase awareness among library staff when it comes to all the great destination venues that can be accessed via the Michigan Activity Pass program, and then of course promoted to library patrons, TLN went shopping. On Black Friday. Or maybe it was on Cyber Monday?! For Kindle Fire tablets. Whichever day, we bought a dozen Kindle Fire tablets. At a very, very good price. Now, the real fun begins...we get to start giving those tablets to participating MAP libraries! For the peak MAP usage months of June, July, and August, we will award one Kindle Fire tablet (5th generation; 7" display; 8gb; quad-core processor; dual cameras; microSD slot for up to 128gb of expandable storage) to the libraries in their respective library cooperatives that circulate the greatest number of MAP passes that month. Four libraries will win in June. This includes libraries in Woodlands, Detroit, Suburban, and Southwest library cooperatives. Four libraries will win in July. This includes libraries in Superiorland, Northland, Mid-Michigan, and Lakeland library cooperatives. Three libraries will win in August. This includes libraries in MidEastern, White Pine, and TLN library cooperatives. That makes for a total of 11 Kindle Fire tablets! Prizes will be awarded in early July, early August, and early September to the winning libraries, based on MAP circulation totals from the previous month. Do you offer programming for special needs? If so, than the Library of Michigan & the Special Needs Services Rountable (SNSR) would like to hear from you! Sensory story times, book discussions utilizing multiple formats, volunteer programs for teens and adults with special needs, and before/after-hours sensory-friendly programs are all wonderful examples of adapted inclusion. We want to know what wonderful program your library is offering to patrons with different needs. Perhaps your library offers an inclusive or targeted story time using a visual schedule and multisensory- engaging tools for those with developmental delays (but also great for English Language Learning (ELL) families!)? Are you reaching out to teens or adults reading at a lower level by offering a book discussion using hi-low titles? Maybe you offer titles available in multiple formats to include those with visual impairments or dyslexia in your book discussions?
