by Lisa Waskin 01 Sep '26

01 Sep '26

Happy September Everyone! September is here, which means the UPRLC Conference is just three weeks away. We have a record number of registrations this year, but we do still have about 25 spots left, so if you have been thinking it over before registering, now is the time to do so. (link below) https://uprlc.org/uprlc-annual-conference-committee/ This year's conference is being held at Northern Michigan University's newly renovated Northern Center in scenic Marquette, MI. Fall is a spectacular time of year to visit the UP on beautiful Lake Superior. (maps of parking and conference space attached) Parking will be free in lots #1 and #8 - adjacent to the Northern Center on the NMU Campus. The conference will be starting at noon on Monday, September 21st and will wrap up at 4:30pm on Tuesday, September 22nd. All spots in our post-conference workshops are full at this time. You are welcome to sign up for the waiting list for the AI Workshop with Kristin Fontichiaro, but no guarantees that you will be able to attend. (information attached) We will be holding our annual gift basket raffle at the end, so if you would like to donate a gift basket, please register here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C0444AFAC28A7FCC16-64941443-uprlc Another great tradition for the Annual Conference started back in 2018, when we named Megan (Buck) Rose as our first UPRLC Librarian of the Year. This year we will be awarding a Librarian of the Year along with a Library of the Year. The deadline for nominations is Saturday, September 12th. Please submit all nominations to Conference Co-Chair, Lisa Waskin at lwaskin(a)superiordistrictlibrary.org<mailto:lwaskin@superiordistrictlibrary.org> (nomination forms are attached to this email. This year's keynote speakers include Bobbi Newman who will be speaking on Moving from Overwhelmed to Intentional, and we will also have a panel discussion with library leaders including David Votta, Dillon Geshel, Scott Garrison, Jenny Marr, and myself. Finally, we will hear from a panel of Library of Michigan staff members on all things LM. In addition to our fabulous keynotes, we have a wide array of breakout session topics from Library of Things to Conversations Worth Having, and everything in between. I would also like to thank our generous sponsors and vendors: Northern Michigan University - Lydia M. Olson Library; EBSCO; Michigan Library Association (MLA); Municipal Employees Retirement System of Michigan (MERS); The Book Farm; Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS); Junior Library Guild; Upper Peninsula Publishers and Authors Association (UPPAA); and Gift of Life Michigan Again, if you have been on the fence about this year's conference, now is the time to look at your Next Chapter and come to this year's UPRLC Annual Conference. See you this Fall, Lisa Waskin Lisa Waskin, District Director Superior District Library 541 Library Drive Sault Sainte Marie, MI 49783 Ph. Kanopy for programming
by Melissa McPherson 01 Sep '26

01 Sep '26

Has any library used Kanopy for a library program? We have an annual film program and I am wondering how or if Kanopy can be integrated into the program. I am hoping to chat with someone with ideas or experience. Drop me an email if I can contact you with some questions. Melissa McPherson, Willard Library

Library of Things Question
by Andrus, Miriam 01 Sep '26

01 Sep '26

Hello Fellow Librarians, We recently purchased an ice cream maker (Breville Smart Scoop) for our Library of Things, and it is proving to be very popular. I am curious if other libraries have food type items that they circulate, are they popular, and what are they? Thanks in advance. -Miriam [cid:033c4ab2-70b4-42ee-b518-eaf70654fb30] Miriam Andrus, MLS Director, Grace A. Dow Memorial Library 1710 W.
