Re: Friends Book Sale Question

Our Novi Library book store is also getting fewer quality used books. We believe that electronic readers have had an impact. Even our older customer's are using them. We still have many who like to hold a book. They buy books and return them for us to sell again. We don't have a big sale but have seasonal sales in our used book store. Donations can be dropped off anytime and large donations are accepted by our facilities staff. Road construction did have an impact a couple years ago.

Hello! Michigan Humanities is thrilled to be hosting author Priya Parker for a free, public event at The Henry Ford Museum on October 8. Through a conversation between Parker and Michigan Humanities' President and CEO, Jennifer Rupp, you'll be inspired to gather in community with your peers, learn why gathering is essential to the humanities, and be introduced to Michigan Humanities' new statewide initiative that helps bring intentional gatherings to communities near you—the Great Michigan Gathering.<https://www.michiganhumanities.org/great-michigan-gathering/> Each attendee will receive a free copy of Priya's book, The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters, and have the opportunity for her to sign it at the event. If you'd like to attend this event, please register here.<https://luma.com/uhmovy2o> We'd also appreciate the help of Southeast Michigan libraries to promote this event to your audiences if you think it'd be a good fit! I've attached a promotional flyer for your use, and here is a link to a social media post<https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1DkkBH145X/> that can be shared. Along with the in-person event, we are encouraging libraries across Michigan to become Gathering Partners and host a watch party of the event livestream on October 8, so that more Michiganders can join the conversation. If your library is interested in hosting a watch party, please fill out this form<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScwl0hTTeVQiwpqdDYMHbjA6AgAe746BiH…> to receive more information. Hi all, I have been searching for a presenter who could do a program on pressed flowers - how to collect them, how to press them, and how to craft with them. Does anyone know a good presenter who could do something like this for me? Any help is appreciated! Thank you so much. -- *“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. FYI: In preparation for the Oct 1 changes to provisions of the Youth Employment Standards Act, LEO (Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity) has unveiled a NEW Website for Youth Employment: LEO - Youth Employment<https://www.michigan.gov/leo/initiatives/youth-employment?utm_medium=email&…> The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity is preparing to launch the new Youth Employment Permit Portal, a centralized online system that will modernize the state’s youth employment permit process and make it more convenient and accessible for minors, families and employers. Friends Book Sale Question
by Andrus, Miriam 17 Sep '26

17 Sep '26

Hello Fellow Librarians, Just a question, because I am curious... Our Friends of the Library Retale Market (used book sale) has seen a decrease in sales this year over last year. We have been doing a lot of construction projects, so we just assumed it was due to that. However, I am just wondering if other libraries have been experiencing the same. Maybe it has more to do with the economy (rising gas prices, groceries, etc.) and consumer cuts to discretionary spending. Have your Friends been experiencing similar trends? Ever curious, -Miriam [cid:e6847d88-b571-47c0-bc10-9cfaefb1c312] Miriam Andrus, MLS Director, Grace A. Dow Memorial Library 1710 W.
