Job Posting: Continuing Education Cataloging II Instructor Continuing Education and Professional Learning Services at the iSchool at UW-Madison is seeking an instructor for Cataloging II<https://ischool.wisc.edu/continuing-education/cataloging-ii/>, an advanced cataloging course for learners familiar with the concepts covered in Basics of Cataloging<https://ischool.wisc.edu/continuing-education/basic-of-cataloging/>. This is an asynchronous online continuing education course. The previous iteration of Cataloging II was 6 weeks, but we are looking to expand it to an 8 week course if possible. The instructor will begin teaching in the spring of 2027 - the course dates are somewhat flexible pending the instructor’s availability. The iSchool will provide training and technical support for the instructor. Familiarity with online teaching or learning is an asset but not required. The iSchool uses Canvas as our learning management system. Ideal candidates: * At minimum, must hold a Bachelor’s degree; * Able to develop and teach the course during spring 2027 semester * Well-versed in the required content topics covered in the course (outlined below); * Legally authorized to work in the United States; * Experience with instruction is preferred, but not required. Required Content for Cataloging II * Reading and understanding MARC catalog records * Distinguishing between copy cataloging and original cataloging, and creating original catalog records using MARC formatting * Evaluating current standards and practices of cataloging by learning to think critically about the ethics of cataloging, classification, and metadata * Cataloging Library of Things and other unique materials * Understanding how technology like AI and linked data and recent legislation affect modern cataloging Salary: The instructor will receive up to $2,200 each time they teach the course. The instructor will receive an additional one-time development payment of up to $880. Branch Manager - Eagle Valley Library District (CO) The Eagle Valley Library District (CO) seeks an experienced problem solver who uses solution-based thinking as its next Eagle Branch Manager. Formed as a district in 1992, the library has continued to grow and provides a wealth of services and resources for its residents. With a $6.7 million operating budget and 41 FTE, the district delivers excellent customer service from three branches in its mission to offer opportunities and resources to read, learn and grow. Library highlights include expanded bookmobile service routes, a positive and proactive staff team, wonderful facilities, and new book vending machines installed at local recreation centers. Earlier this year, the district received the "Innovation in the Public Sector" award from the Vail Valley Partnership. The district is a current nominee in the highly competitive Best of the Vail Valley community contest, the Best Company to Work For (over 20) category. The library serves over 49,000 residents in our district in Eagle County, Colorado, on the West side of the Rocky Mountains. The area is well-known to outdoor enthusiasts for its extensive trail terrain for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running. Better known as Vail Valley, the region is home to multiple skiing mountains and is a worldwide destination for outdoor activity. Small mountain towns dot the landscape and offer a simple approach to living that focuses on local business, nature, and entertainment. Responsibilities: Reporting to the Library Director, the Eagle Branch Manager oversees daily operations of the library branch; supervises branch staff in accordance with the library organizational chart; communicates the library's policies and procedures to the public and staff; anticipates and budgets for all major facility requirements; works with staff to identify and implement outreach opportunities; promotes the library through participation in various community groups and activities; and prepares and submits monthly statistics and other reports as directed by the Library Director. Ready to Read Michigan Presents... Practical Puppetry for Powerful Programs! Adding puppetry to library programs can engage learners, promote inclusive environments, breathe life into timeless classics, lift up diverse stories, and ignite imaginations. But who has time for memorizing lines, the budget for exotic supplies, or the opportunity to implement long-term lesson plans? You can do it all without complicated puppet stages, formal scripts, expensive materials, or midnight oil! Experience practical puppetry activities in action. Learn what makes puppetry well-suited to library learning and which types of puppets are best-suited to different activities. Adapt a story, song, or game to include puppets. Practice your crafting and performing skills. Return to your own library inspired and prepared to add puppetry to your own programs. Participants will learn to: * Define puppetry and list five basic styles of puppetry. * Summarize the benefits of incorporating puppetry into library learning. * Consider the role of puppetry to create engaging and inclusive experiences. * Employ frameworks to match the type of puppet best suited to a given opportunity and adapt existing stories, songs, and content to puppetry. * Interpret and present an existing story, song, or fingerplay using puppetry. * Apply examples of practical puppetry in programs. For two years she was the Resident Puppet Builder at the Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta. Katie earned her MA from the University of Connecticut's Puppet Arts Program and her MLS from the University of Maryland's College of Library and Information Studies. Katie has presented puppetry workshops for the Puppeteers of America, the Maryland Library Association, the American Library Association, and in other venues.
