King County (WA) Library System, Director of Human Resources Literacy, Learning, Libraries - Join the nationally recognized King County (WA) Library System <http://www.kcls.org/> as the Director of Human Resources. KCLS, an independent taxing district with an annual operating budget of $109 million, is comprised of 48 community libraries and serves over 2 million ethnically diverse residents over 2300 square miles. In planning, organizing, and directing the Library's Human Resources, the Director of HR is responsible for directing the "people functions" of the Library- building trust and confidence with 1,200 full-time and part-time staff at all levels at KCLS while demonstrating leadership and modeling the organizational values of the system. KCLS knows that staff is its greatest asset and the successful candidate will be responsible for (1) designing and implementing a staff development and training component; (2) providing a conduit of communication from staff to management and management to staff; (3) serving as the Library's labor relations representative working with union negotiations, conflict resolution, and mediation; (4) developing, recommending and implementing human resource policies and programs in accordance with KCLS goals and objectives and in compliance with all laws and legal requirements; (5) managing recruitment and selection processes; (6) selecting, developing, motivating, evaluating, and directing the work of HR department staff; and (7) developing and administrating classification and competitive compensation programs. This position reports to the Library Director and has five direct reports. Dell computers from Netech through REMC

Did anyone else buy Dell Computers through NeTech through the SPOT/TriG program at REMC? I bought ours in August and am just getting around to setting them up. They all appear to use French as an initial language. Which is fine. I'm not so Ameri-centric that I think English must be the default language (much less American English). But the computer seems to think that it IS in English. I set the region to Etats-Unis, the application and keyboard ("Clavier") language to Anglais (Etats-Unis), along with the time zone, and click "Suivant." The software agreement that follows in in French. The tag at the bottom right corner says "ENG" which tells me that it thinks it is in English. When I hover over the ENG, I get an option to switch to FRA (which I am already in, obviously). Does anyone know what to do? Is there some obvious thing I am missing? Do I have to hire a staff of Quebecois? While I think it might be interesting to force all of my public access computer users to learn French, I'm hoping to find a way out. Si'l vous plait aider. This week we are welcoming Kimberly Young as our new Library Director at the Houghton Lake Public Library! Kimberly is a Michigan native who earned her master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Wayne State University (permit my personal bias - woo hoo for WSU!). Since then, she has gathered years of library experience from all across the country, implementing new programs, improving services, and even developing new libraries. Hi all, Just wanted to share that my middle school book club recently read "The Left Behinds: The iPhone that Saved George Washington" by David Potter and they really liked it. Then yesterday we Skyped with the author! I am sure some of you have already done this, but we hadn't because our book club meets at the school so the technology link would be up to the school. Plus we meet after school and this could have been an issue with the school, too. I am happy to say, the school though it was a great idea and the school's technology director set it all up for me and stayed the entire time. He then told me he was excited to hear David talk to the kids as much as I was! The tech director has two kids in the elementary school so he is always on the look out for books for his sons. The author, David Potter, lives in NJ and since we are in MI and don't have funds to bring authors in for 30 kids, this was a great alternative for us. As I said, I am sure there are many of you out there that do this already, but for those that have elementary, junior or high school age book clubs, this was a super program that worked out for us We also never lost our Skype connection which was also a great thing! Anyway, keep in mind that many authors do this and many do it for free as David did for us.
