It is time to submit proposals for the MLA Academic Libraries Summit to be held May 20, 2016 in Lansing! The Summit will be a day-long opportunity to explore new ideas, meet other library professionals and look at the profession from different perspectives. We're interested in proposals on topics in every area of librarianship, addressing the issues critical to academic libraries. We welcome proposals that explore the present and the future of academic library collections, staffing and services. Broad participation is encouraged from librarians, staff and administrators from all types of academic libraries (including but not limited to public universities, private colleges and community colleges). Hello Information Mavens, Has anyone had anyone other than their local police or fire department do a presentation about Stranger Danger? I have a patron who is in charge of safety week at the elementary school and she is already having the police and fire departments present on other topics, so she would like some other ideas about who might be able to do a Stranger Danger program. Program recommendation: Teresa Irish and "A Thousand Letters Home"

Just add my kudos to the growing record for the "A Thousand Letters Home" program-the Norton Shores Branch Library just hosted Ms. Irish last Wednesday, October 21st. What an amazing evening! Teresa is a mesmerizing personality and the program flows smoothly from World War II to current day. Many of our patrons mentioned the word inspiring when the evening was over, and I couldn't agree more. If you haven't had the opportunity to have Teresa Irish come to your library yet, I recommend her "A Thousand letters Home" presentation.
