The Clarkston Independence District Library is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to fill our position of Part-Time Children's Librarian. Please read the job description below. Part-time Children's Librarian Salary: $16.00-$22.00 per hour Hours: 20-27.5 hours per week Primary job duties: Duties include, but are not limited to: * Provides direct assistance to patrons with basic information regarding use of library material, equipment, and services at the combined youth/adult information desk. * Responsible for development of assigned collections * Maintains and cultivates contact with parents and other family members, the public, schools, teachers, other libraries, state and regional library associations, and other professional organizations * Initiates, plans, and conducts a variety of programs and activities to encourage the use of the library by children and teens * Attends and participates in staff meetings and discussions * Perform other library duties as assigned Qualifications: * Master's degree in Library and Information Science * Professional and enthusiastic attitude towards providing public library service to patrons of all ages * Experience working with children ages 0-18, especially ages 0-2 * A desire to serve the public in a positive manner * Familiarity with popular reading materials and genre collections * Strong oral and written communication skills * Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships * Knowledge of Integrated Library systems, Polaris preferred * Familiarity with electronic databases and MeL resources * Knowledge of popular office computer programs * Ability to lift, push and/or pull at least 20 pounds * Flexibility to work varied hours Reports to: Head of Children's and Teen Services Please respond by November 9, 2015 at 5 pm to: Tracy Bedford Head of Children's and Teen Services Clarkston Independence District Library 6495 Clarkston Rd Clarkston MI 48346 bedfordt(a)indelib.org<mailto:bedfordt@indelib.org>

Money Smart Week Opportunity

The Library of Michigan encourages libraries to join the 2016 Money Smart Week campaign. Money Smart Week partners and Novi Public Library are working together to provide public libraries in Michigan with books and materials to encourage both children and parents to learn basic money concepts in fun and engaging ways. Financial literacy is a core 21st Century skill for all age groups. During Money Smart Week 2015, Michigan libraries across the state held more than 170 story times and gave away donated books to more than 6,000 families in 50 counties. We hope to build on this success by once again promoting Money Smart Kids Read and encouraging you to request free copies of Rosemary Well's Bunny Money for your Money Smart Week story times. Please consider participating in this wonderful opportunity for your community members. MSW is a public awareness campaign designed to help consumers better manage their personal finances. This is achieved through the collaboration and coordinated effort of hundreds of organizations across the country including financial institutions and other businesses, schools, libraries, not-for-profits, places of worship, government agencies and the media. National MSW Partners include the American Library Association and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, among others. These groups work together once a year to stress the importance of financial education, inform consumers about where they can get help and provide free educational seminars and activities throughout the week. Programming is offered to all demographics, ages and income levels, and covers all facets of personal finance from savings basics and establishing a budget, to first-time home buying and retirement planning. The effort was created by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago in 2002. Money Smart Week partners will be hosting public events April 23-30, 2016. Between April 23-30, 2016, libraries and communities across the country will be hosting financial education events for people of all ages, including youth! At your event, announce that your story time is part of the national Money Smart Week initiative, read the Bunny Money book (and other relevant, age-appropriate books from your collection), perhaps do a craft activity (decorate piggy banks, color pictures that feature money, sing money songs, do finger plays, etc.), and then hand out the free books to families who attend! 9. (Although, if you want to plan more money-related events for youth or adults, we can help you with that too! Email the Chair and she can share a children's librarian list of ideas with you.) There is a limited budget, so it's first come, first served. The books will be shipped to the Novi Public Library (thank you Julie Farkas!), sorted, packaged, and distributed through the state-wide RIDES/TLN delivery service. Your order should arrive at your library around March 23. help needed for an APA citation

I need help in citing a "custom" printed/published(?) biology lab book in APA. I have looked at the manual and the website and I can not find an example. MAP: Meet The Team at MLA!

All, Are you attending this year's Michigan Library Association conference at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi? If so, you'll want to be sure to stop by the Plymouth Rocket booth in the exhibit hall and say "hi" to Ric Bailey. Ric is the developer and software engineer of the TixKeeper software platform on which our Michigan Activity Pass runs. My colleague Brigette and I will be at MLA on Thursday, and we look forward to seeing all of you there. This a friendly reminder that early registration for the SEMLOL Fall Meeting is ending soon.
