Willard Library (MI) - Director Search Willard Library<https://willardlibrary.org/> seeks a leader who embraces smart risk-taking and the guest experience as the path to innovation. You will lead a dedicated, agile team that believes community is essential to the library's success. The library's goal is to nurture a sense of belonging for guests through programming, collections, services, and outreach. Responsibilities * Administer library within the framework of the library's Strategic Plan, board policies, the budget, and applicable laws. * Analyze strengths and weakness of the library, presenting plans for growth and implementing goals. * Initiating new library services and improvements to existing services. * Negotiation of vendor and labor contracts. * Long-range planning and budgeting of library programs. * Working closely with the library board in assessing and providing services to all patrons. Required Qualifications * A Master of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required. * Hold or be eligible for a Library of Michigan Level I certificate<https://www.michigan.gov/libraryofmichigan/libraries/cert/addtlinfo/library….> (Librarian's Permanent Certificate requires 4 years of full-time employment of paid, professional library work post-MLS degree) required. * At least three years of experience in a public library setting at a management leadership level. Preferred Qualifications * Previous administrative experience. * Demonstrated experience in sound fiscal planning and management that align with goals, objectives, and operational strategies. * Proven success in community engagement, partnership development, and outcome delivery. * Deep knowledge of library trends on the local, state, and national levels. * Experience working with collective bargaining units, including the ability to obtain commitment to a solution or idea while maintaining integrity and relationships. * Experience working successfully with a library board. * Demonstrated experience with facility development and management. * Experience leading, implementing a strategic plan with demonstrated outcomes. * Commitment to results, demonstrating high performance and a willingness to challenge yourself and others to deliver. Willard Library is a District Library serving over 90,000 residents of the four public school districts in and around Battle Creek. The library is anchored in the city's downtown with a 55,000 square foot facility, and a 12,000 square foot branch on the south side. The next Director will have a budget of approximately $6 million dollars and 40 staff. Established in 1840, Willard Library is one of the oldest public libraries in Michigan. Voters in 2001 overwhelmingly approved a perpetual millage of 2.0 mils to fund library operations, and guests continue to reiterate high levels of satisfaction with library service. In 2021, Willard Library was the recipient of the State Librarian's Citation of Excellence award. No previous Wikidata experience required, but you will need a Wikidata account to participate. This edit-a-thon will take place April 25-29. Bucket-List Ideas It might be tricky to tackle all 63 parks; however, striving to visit the four found in the Great Lakes Region can kick off any great bucket list. Conservation, Preservation & Protection While many argue for conservation, preservation, and protection of our National Parks, there are always challenges to the best laid plans. Yellowstone turns 150! Digital Wellness Symposium for 6-8th graders & parents/caregivers coming up May 14

Hi, all! We've opened up our May 14 virtual Digital Wellness Symposium to students in grades 6-8 and a parent/caregiver and are excited about the opportunity to hear from folks from multiple locations. About this Event *Calling 6th, 7th and 8th Graders and Their Parents/Caregivers!* Middle school can be a time when kids are getting their first phones, texting, signing up for social media, and exploring the web on their own. Sometimes, online life is fun and rewarding, connecting us to our interests and the people we care about. At other times, it can feel overwhelming, addictive, or manipulative. The past two years have reminded us of how much we rely on our devices. We want kids to thrive when they are online, and we want parents and caregivers to have confidence and tools for supporting that journey. Please join us *Saturday, May 14, from 8:45 a.m.—12:30 p.m.*, for the U-M Digital Wellness Conference! We’re looking for 40 two-person teams (middle schooler plus parent/caregiver) to join us on Zoom for a fun morning of learning, conversation, and activities about healthy online behaviors. There will be time for kid-only activities with U-M students, time for adults to engage with the featured speaker, and at-home conversation prompts or challenge activities to complete together. Our Keynote speaker will be Diana Graber <https://www.dianagraber.com/>, author of *Raising Humans in a Digital World: Helping Kids Build a Healthy Relationship with Technology* <https://www.amazon.com/Raising-Humans-Digital-World-Relationship/dp/0814439…>.
