Weird request, but does anyone have a supply of the old fashioned cards and packets we used to use in the "olden age" for circulation of books? I am helping our church create a lending library and we figure the old way will be the easiest. Much appreciation! -- Cindi L. Libraries Eligible for New Digital Equity Outreach Funding; January 9 Deadline to Apply » Public Libraries Online
by White, Shannon (MDE) 21 Nov '22

21 Nov '22

>From Public Libraries Online - https://publiclibrariesonline.org/2022/11/libraries-eligible-for-new-digita… Applications are now open for the Affordable Connectivity Program<https://www.affordableconnectivity.gov/> (ACP) Outreach Grant to support low-cost home broadband outreach efforts. The Federal Communications Commission will award $70 million to trusted intermediaries, like libraries, to increase awareness and encourage eligible households to enroll in the ACP. The grant application window is open until January 9, 2023, at 11:59 EST. With only an eight-week window to submit applications, libraries must act quickly. Libraries should allow up to four weeks for the application process. Grant recipients will be selected on or before March 10, 2023. Grant recipients must then spend their award within 24 months. While over 14 million households nationwide are currently enrolled in the ACP, millions more U.S. residents are eligible. The ACP Outreach Grant Program<https://www.fcc.gov/acp-grants> will provide funding to develop and implement impactful outreach programs to historically underserved and unserved communities—work that many libraries are already doing. The FCC is expected to make 200-400 awards of no less than $50,000 and no more than $1 million for outreach efforts targeted particularly to people of color, persons with disabilities, persons who live in rural or Tribal areas, and others who are or have been historically underserved, marginalized, or adversely affected by persistent poverty or inequality. Eligible activities for the Outreach Grant Program could include virtual and in-person outreach events, in-person ACP application assistance, outreach materials, personnel costs for those working exclusively on ACP outreach, and supplies such as IT hardware and hotspots. Priority will be given to outreach efforts targeting underserved low-income households and communities with low ACP participation. Applicants that have experience in outreach for government programs and resources, trusted community relationships, and experience with multilingual outreach will also be prioritized. Applications must be submitted through grants.gov – a process that can take up to a month to complete. To set up the Grants.gov account, the applicant will need: * A valid Employer Identification Number * A Login.gov account, for a single sign-on registration, to then establish an organization registration with the System for Award Management (SAM) at SAM.gov * A new or updated registration and organization profile in Grants.gov, where applications will be completed and submitted More information about the ACP Outreach Grant Program is available on the FCC’s ACP resource page<https://www.fcc.gov/acp-grants>. The FCC hosted the first in a series of informational webinars<https://www.fcc.gov/news-events/events/2022/11/webinar-discuss-affordable-c…> on November 15, and future webinars will be announced. ALA also will hold library-specific informational events on ACP Outreach Grant Program and other new funding opportunities to be announced in the coming weeks. Funding was allocated for ACP Outreach Grant Program through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), passed in November 2021. ALA has actively been advocating on behalf of America’s libraries and filed comments with the FCC during the rulemaking process to ensure libraries are eligible for funding and recognized for their role in digital literacy and digital inclusion. Information about other digital equity resources and funding opportunities available for libraries is available on ALA’s website<https://www.ala.org/advocacy/broadband/digital-equity-resources>. FCC Broadband Map
by Tracy Logan 21 Nov '22

21 Nov '22

Hello, If your library serves an area with poor, or no internet, now is the time to speak up! The FCC has made this nationwide broadband map available to the public: https://broadbandmap.fcc.gov/home The map outlines internet access at specific locations. I encourage everyone to take a look at the map and submit challenges for inaccurate information. This map is going to have a direct effect on the Internet for All initiative, that is how the federal government spends grant money to address internet connectivity in underserved and unserved areas. My I.T. Manager checked her home address and issued four challenges for inaccurate information from four different providers. In her own words, "My address was listed as Served, which is incorrect as the top speed I'm able to achieve is 15mbps download. I should be Underserved as I'm below 25mbps/3mbps." Of course, this is only one anecdote but it is an important issue and I encourage everyone to take 10 minutes and check that their home and library are designated accurately. I also encourage you to share this as widely as possible. Happy Thanksgiving! -- Tracy Logan Library Director Cadillac Wexford Public Library 411 S. Hi library land! Please excuse any cross-posting. The Plymouth District Library is honored to host the following virtual event with Heather Bruegl on November 29th from 7-8pm. Please feel free to share this event with your colleagues and patrons, especially those who are fans of true crime and/or current events. She's Gone Missing: Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women Tuesday, November 29th @ 7pm via Zoom - *Register here <https://plymouth.librarycalendar.com/event/shes-gone-missing-missing-and-mu…> for Zoom details* Description: There is an epidemic that no one is talking about outside of Indian Country. Within our community we are dealing with an epidemic of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women. With numbers so high that they are unreported, how do we deal with it all? Why aren't there concrete statistics? Why do the crimes go unreported? What has the FBI done to help with this epidemic? What does “Missing White Woman Syndrome” have to do with this? Let's talk some history and try to find out why this is an issue and what we can do in and out of Indian Country to make sure that our sisters, mothers, daughters, wives, girlfriends, women, don't become a statistic. Presented by historian and activist Heather Bruegl. Thanks! - Sarah -- Sarah Vargas (she/her <https://pronouns.org/what-and-why>) | Adult Services Librarian Plymouth District Library | 223 S.
