Hello Michlib-l, Please join us at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2022 for the Man’s Best Friend: Dogs in the Ancient World event. Dogs were the first animal humans domesticated, and have held a special place in our societies ever since. Acting as guards, guides to the underworld, companions and hunters, they have played many parts throughout history. Join archaeologist Ellen Green in her return to BPL for an exploration of what roles dogs had in the ancient world and how our canine friends have been there for us for 29,000 years. Ellen Green is a PhD researcher at the University of Reading in England, specializing in human remains. Prior to her return to academia she was a field archaeologist in London for 5 years, and she has worked on sites from every period in the city's history. She developed a love of archaeology through many visits to Roman ruins and castles in the UK over many vacations, which inspired a fascination with the past. She is also a big fan of Indiana Jones. Good morning, Please excuse the repost. We are still accepting applications from qualified candidates. Allegan District Library is hiring an Adult Programming and Marketing Coordinator. This is a brand-new position for our library. The Adult Programming and Marketing Coordinator plans, organizes, and conducts library programming for adults from age 18+. Plans, organizes, and conducts outreach activities for community members of all ages, working closely with the Youth Services Librarian for youth outreach. Works with the Library Director and Assistant Director to lead the library’s marketing, outreach, and promotional efforts. This position is full-time, benefited (health insurance, generous paid time off, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, an HRA plan for vision and dental, and retirement). This position is hourly, non-exempt, starting at $17/hour. The ideal candidate will have a relevant Bachelor's degree, two years of experience in adult services, working with adults of various ages, and demonstrated experience in marketing and outreach. Ancestry Library Edition versus MyHeritage

Good Morning MichLibL, Our library is considering dropping Ancestry Library edition due to the high cost and sliding usage numbers-the average cost per search in June for our library was $8.06! Our patrons apparently got used to using it at home in the last couple of years. We had respectable numbers before the pandemic, but not so much anymore. Does MyHeritage serve your patrons' genealogy needs? We like the fact that it's free to us through Mel eLibrary. Meeting Room Reservations

We moved our meeting room reservation booking online several months ago and it's been working well. However, we have still been calling applicants to make sure that they are not using the meeting rooms for private parties. We do ask people to provide a purpose for use of the room on the application and they also must tick a box that indicates they have read the room policy which forbids the use of rooms for private parties. Does anyone else who is booking reservations online also make calls? If not, have you had issues with people using the rooms for purposes not intended? The phone calls do not seem like a good use of time but before we stopped doing this we wanted to see if any other libraries have had issues with people using meeting rooms for parties. At this point there is still work being done with transferring records that will continue over the weekend before the new system is live. A few things to note as we continue this transition over the next few days: * Library staff are still unable to process online library card applications. Please hold off from submitting any online applications until further notice. * Current library cardholders are still able to access the Library of Michigan's databases<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flnks.gd%2…> in the same manner as before. * Once the record transition is completed and everything is tested, we will send out instructions for how cardholders will need to reset their card pin numbers for the new system.
