The River Rapids District Library is seeking a full time Library Director. This position entails initiative, independent judgment, and the ability to work with others to accomplish the goals and objectives of the Library Board of Trustees. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic and dynamic. S/he will have the ability to respond to and nurture relationships not only among staff, board members and patrons, but also amongst Chesaning Area Friends of the Library, civic organizations, area businesses and library groups. S/he will be a passionate advocate for the librarys valued programs and services, as well as the future of the library and its continuing role within the community. The library is located in Chesaning, Michigan, serving 4,659 people in Chesaning Township as well as paying card holders in the area. The library has a staff of one full time director and four part-time employees. The library has a collection of approximately 28,000 items in-house plus a variety of electronic resources. The library is open 32 hours per week and has an annual operating budget of $150,000. Qualifications: Bachelors degree with library experience; Masters degree in Library Science desired. Ability to work effectively with staff, Board, volunteer organizations and community/civic organizations including local schools. Understanding of technology as related to library operations. Supervisory experience. Experience with budgeting, staff management, grant writing, facility management and information technologies. Strong computer and internet skills required. Facilitator of information to library staff and the public. Salary range: $25,000-$34,000 commensurate with background and experience. Applications close Jan. 21, 2014. Ned Vizzini

Some of you may remember the Young Adult author Ned Vizzini ("Teen Angst," "It's Kind of a Funny Story") who spoke at an MLA Spring Institute several years ago. Hello all, Apologies for being out of touch for so long! The MCLS office was without power and network connectivity due to the storm that hit Lansing the other day. Connectivity has just been restored allowing me to send this out to y'all. Since we had no idea when connectivity would be back, we closed the MCLS office earlier this morning. We will remain closed until Friday morning. At that time, we'll start to go through emails and support requests that have piled up while we were offline. We appreciate your patience! Another Pure Michigan event!

Like thousands of others in Mid-Michigan, last Sunday's ice storm knocked out all power at MCLS. Service was JUST restored. Our servers were all down so there was no access to: mcls.org mel.org MeL Databases helpdesk MeLCat helpdesk phones email listservs RIDES label maker The Flint RIDES warehouse is still without power. The MCLS office is still closed today, but we will be open for business tomorrow morning. Thank you all for your patience!
