Patron Banning
by Cierra Bakovka 24 Sep '26

24 Sep '26

Hi all, I've never had to ban a patron for any length of time before. How does everyone else go about it? We had a patron (who we suspect is unhoused) defecate on the library's front porch. It was after hours, but we can see them on camera. The person has been spending time at the library over the last couple of weeks, but we don't know their name. They already became a bit argumentative when asked to keep their shoes on inside the library, so I am not sure what the best way to proceed. Any suggestions or sharing of similar experiences is welcomed. Mystery Games - Summer Reading 2027
by Anna Merritt 24 Sep '26

24 Sep '26

Hi All, It never feels too early to start planning for summer, as I am already seeing libraries asking about Escape/Mystery Games. As the Adult Programmer for the Richland Community Library, I have several escape/murder mystery games over the last few years that I would like to offer them up for free use to anyone. Walkthroughs, puzzles, marketing, and setup instructions can all be found within the Google Drive Folder: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/11AgUED2L_mxfTFBwuFsIaOA0qqILg9vV?us… Feel free to use them completely or as a jumping off point. I only ask that you make copies of the documents to your own system before making any changes so that the original files stay intact. If you plan on designing your own game and would like any advice or consultation, I'd be happy to offer my expertise. If you have any questions, please let me know. :) -- *Anna Merritt* *Assistant Director/Interloan/Adult Programming* *Richland Community Library* 8951 Park Street l Richland MI 49083 richlandlibrary.org l zv283

Mobile Escape Room - ISO
by Lorry Traver 24 Sep '26

24 Sep '26

Good morning, As many of you likely are, I have begun thinking of next year's summer reading programming and would like to have an escape room. However, after having put one together and run it, I have decided I never want to do that again because it is so time consuming. Does anyone know of a company that does the escape room for you, whether you need to provide the room for them, or they bring it in on a trailer. Thanks for the help! -- *“Books are the plane, and the train, and the road. They are the destination, and the journey. [LEO Banner] New Online Tool Coming Soon for Youth Employment Permits Join our webinar today Michigan is preparing to launch the new Youth Employment Permit Portal (YEPP), a centralized online system that will modernize the state’s youth employment permit process and make it more convenient and accessible for minors, families and employers. Beginning Oct. 2, 2026, employers and minors will use YEPP to complete the youth employment permit process through one statewide system. Local school districts and nonpublic schools will no longer issue youth employment permits. The new system will: * Allow minors and employers to complete the permit process online at any time of day, providing greater flexibility, particularly during the summer months when schools may have limited hours. * Require employers to register with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO) before hiring minors. * Allow employers to notify LEO when a minor’s employment ends. * Provide LEO with greater visibility into youth employment across Michigan. * Create opportunities for LEO to proactively communicate youth worker rights and responsibilities directly to minors and employers. Live Webinar — Today, Sept. 24 To help employers, schools, families and other stakeholders prepare for the transition, LEO will host a Youth Employment Permit Portal webinar on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 2–3:30 p.m. The webinar will feature State Rep. Phil Skaggs, LEO leaders and representatives from the company that developed YEPP, who will provide an overview of the new system, discuss the transition and answer questions about the updated youth employment permit process. tween graphic novels in Korean and Vietnamese?
by Lise Mitchell 23 Sep '26

23 Sep '26

Hi, Got this question from a colleague at a school library -- wonder if anyone can assist. "We have two students who speak and read other languages: one Korean and one Vietnamese. I am trying to find a source for popular US book titles translated into those languages. Titles like any book by Raina Telegemier (Guts, Smile, Sisters, Drama, etc.), the Baby Sitters Club series in Graphic novel by Ann Martin, or any book or series that would be of high interest to 5th and 6th grade students. Do you happen to know any sources where I could buy titles like this? I have sources to buy books in Spanish and have those in our collection. That was relatively easy, but I have found only one source for books translated into Korean and so far none in Vietnamese." I unfortunately don't regularly buy books in either of these languages. I found a vendor for a few titles, but the prices are bit high ($65), but assume that is to be expected? as always, thanks in advance, lise -- Lise Mitchell, Library Director director(a)gladl.org 517-622-3550 Grand Ledge Area District Library 131 E.
