Notes from MiYouth virtual meeting 3.26.2020
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 26 Mar '20

26 Mar '20

Hello, Thank you so much to all who joined us this morning! We had about 120 participants and it was wonderful to hear from so many on the call. A few take-aways from the conversation: * Communities are craving routines and boredom busters, so post a schedule with content that might engage the whole family. * Think outside-the-box on how to reach out to those in your community that do not have virtual access. (Don't forget accessibility guidelines) * Teen engagement might be as simple as offering them a virtual chat or game room - lots of concern for teens in this time overall. * Less is more; families are very overwhelmed right now so share challenges and engaging activities that are not necessarily curriculum heavy. Links: MiYouth Brainstorming from 3.26.20<https://bit.ly/MiYouth_sharing> - This doc also includes a link to today's Zoom Chatbox for additional comments by those on the call. closed captioning services?
by Stacy Pasche 26 Mar '20

26 Mar '20

My board is most likely going to have to meet before the stay home order is lifted. We will be using Zoom for a remote meeting. I was hoping to use a 3rd party for closed captioning, but what I'm finding is its really cost prohibitive. We are so small and will only need the service once or twice. I can designate someone to do live captioning, but I am hoping there is an easier solution that is low cost. I assume I'm not the only person in need of this right now. Thanks! -- Stacy Pasche, Library Director *Benzie Shores District Library* *630 Main St.* *Frankfort, MI 49635* *ph: (231) 352-4671* *"Sometimes its fun to do the impossible." - Walt Disney*

by Kay Hurd 25 Mar '20

Even though our libraries are closed to the public and staff, we still need to have key employees enter our buildings in order to perform essential duties to keep our operations going. Have any of you written an exemption letter for these employees so they can still enter the buildings without fear of breaking the executive order? If you have could you please share? Thank you.
