School meals will continue to be served to Michigan children throughout the "Stay Home, Stay Safe" order declared by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer on Monday, the Michigan Department of Education reiterated today. "Families will still be able to access meals for their children through this challenging time," said State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice. "I thank all of the school employees and volunteers for continuing their commitment to feeding the children of our state. Ensuring Michigan's children continue to get the food they need every day is vitally important." Executive Order 2020-21<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flnks.gd%2…> directed residents of Michigan to remain at home, prohibiting public and private gatherings among non-family members, and barring non-essential work activities. The executive order took effect at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. The work of food provision is considered critical infrastructure, which is exempted from these prohibitions. In a message released to the public Monday, Governor Whitmer affirmed that she "is committed to ensuring that Michigan students have access to the food they need during the COVID-19 pandemic." The "Stay Home, Stay Safe" executive order makes specific allowances for food and agriculture work to continue. This includes food service operations at schools, childcare institutions and centers, and emergency feeding operations across the state. School meals will continue to be provided by school districts currently doing so until further notice. Any non-Facebook online programming?
by Rebecca Stout 24 Mar '20

24 Mar '20

Hello, Are any libraries doing online events on platforms other than Facebook? A friend of a friend has young kids at home and is looking for things like online storytimes that she could access on Youtube or elsewhere since she is not on Facebook. I sent her some Youtube channels with read alouds, but from libraries I have only seen Facebook events so far and was wondering if anyone else knew of any libraries doing other things. Thanks, Rebecca Stout Youth Librarian Berkley Public Library 3155 Coolidge Hwy Berkley, MI 48072 248-658-3440

Wholesalers: Updates
by Jim Flury 24 Mar '20

24 Mar '20

All, The governors of Pennsylvania and Ohio have issued orders for "non-essential" businesses to close. Since Brodart (Pennsylvania) and Midwest Tape (Ohio) each have a single location/warehouse, the result is that neither will be shipping product for the time being. As libraries in Michigan are closed this is not a bad thing, anyway. Baker and Taylor and Ingram have multiple warehouses so as far as I am aware, it is business as usual for both of them. The digital products for these and other vendors, Brodart being the exception since they don't have a digital product, remain open for business. And I suspect they are doing very good business. I can tell you that last week at TLN, and yesterday and today from our dining room table, I have processed dozens of "can we start our new RBdigital service(s) on April 1 instead of May 1?" requests from libraries. It is good to see such dedication to patron service out there! And yes, I can and will continue to process your requests for an early start to same. Take care, Jim F. I tried looking for their site, but I can't find it right now and I'm also with my bookkeeper trying to determine how we are going to pay bills without 4+ people being together in my office.
