Michigan Income Tax form shipments

To Michigan Libraries: I anticipate shipment of Michigan tax forms to libraries will begin late next week. The Home Heating Credit book and form are not finalized yet. Unfortunately, this has delayed the printing. We will begin distribution of all the other Income Tax materials and will ship the Home Heating Credit books once they are available. I apologize for this delay - - unfortunately, it is out of our hands at this point. Public Library Services Grant application deadline is March 6th

A reminder that the Public Library Services grant applications are due Friday, March 6th by 5:00 PM. A general grants Q & A webinar will be held Feb. 3rd and an application webinar for the Public Library Services grant will be held February 11th. Public Library Services Grant program This program provides funding for public libraries to purchase materials and supplies that meet the selected program topics for a given year and are for an identified program or service the library will be providing. Funding is intended to supplement local topical services that improve information access and quality of service in their communities. The focus will be on small projects that improve community services, with a focus on the LSTA priorities listed above. The grant period is from mid-April to August. Funding will be from $500 to $2,000. Funding is by reimbursement. The application deadline is March 6, 2020. Collaborative Library Services Grant program Interested applicants must submit an Intent to File form by February 28, 2020, 5:00 PM EST. This grant program is designed to provide Michigan libraries with the opportunity to develop innovative programs AND services that have the potential to develop into sustainable regional or statewide programs, AND include strong partnerships between libraries, and/or local community groups or agencies. The full application deadline is May 29, 2020, 5:00 PM EST. Grants will be awarded in August and awarded projects will begin October 1, 2020. Eligible applicants include Michigan public, academic, school and special libraries as well as non-profit organizations that serve Michigan libraries. Applicants may propose a library program or service in any content area appropriate for library services, such as: * To develop an innovative service or program to meet a newly identified community need: * To meet the increased community demand for a service or resource; * To improve or develop new services to target populations, such as people from diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds; individuals with disabilities; and individuals with limited functional literacy, limited English proficiency or limited information literacy skills. The grant period will be from one to three years (October through September) and funding will be for $50,000 to $225,000 per year up to a possible total of $500,000 over three years. Grant selection is competitive. Improving Access to Information Grant program This LSTA grant program is designed to provide public and academic libraries with the opportunity to expand services for learning and access to information and/or to develop library services that provide all users access to information. The intent is to fund one-year projects that improve access to library collections and information. In a given fiscal year, the Library of Michigan will fund a limited number of grants that meet these priorities: * Improve access to services & information in areas of literacy. * Improve access to services & information in areas of local history or special collections. * Improve access to information for community users with limited online access, e.g. improving equity through digital inclusion. Applicants may propose a project for any of the three priorities listed above. The grant period is one year (Oct.-Sept.) and funding is for $5,000 to $25,000 per year. Application are due Friday, May 29th, 2020, 5:00 PM EST and awarded grants will run from Oct. 1, 2020 through September 30, 2021. Wireless Printing

We are receiving numerous requests from patrons to provide them a method to print directly from their phones. Is anyone currently doing this? How is it set up? Currently all printing is sent to our photocopier through the computer network, and patrons pick it up using a prepaid print card. We would also like something which does not require a lot of staff assistance. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. I am willing to compile responses if others are also interested. Hello Lori, Here is some of the information we printed up on forms for hotspot use. Hope this helps answer some of your questions. The hotspots are a very popular device for us. *I. Process for checking out a hotspot: (for the library staff)* 1. An *Adult* whose account is in good standing and who resides__(Your City Name___, Township___ that you serve) may check out a hotspot. 2. When checking out the Hotspot, make sure the device turns on, everything is inside the case and nothing is damaged. The case should contain: - Device - Power Cord - Instructions 3. Go through the *Mobile Hotspot Policy & Agreement (see below) *with the borrower. Borrowers must sign the statement in order to check out the hotspot. 4. If requested, make a copy of the signed Hotspot Policy. Keep the original and place the copy inside the case. 5. Stamp the *2 week* stamp on the due date sticker found inside the case cover. *II. Mobile Hotspot Policy & Agreement* Features: 1. Hotspots can provide WiFi internet access for up to 5 devices. 2. Hotspots have unlimited data. 3. WiFi internet access may be established in any location that has a Sprint Signal. 4..Hotspots are equipped with internet content filtering software. *Rules:* 1. Hotspots can only be checked out by patrons *18 years of age or older* who have a valid BPL resident or paid card with no overdues or unpaid fines. 2. Hotspots may be checked out *one per household for up to 14 days with no renewals.* 3. Hotspots must be *kept in a temperature-controlled environment. Do not leave in a car.* 4. Hotposts must be returned to a staff member at the circulation desk. *Do Not return in the dropbox.* 5. Hotspots should be returned fully charged. 6. *Overdue Hotspots will be charged at the rate of $5 per day.* 7. * If a hotspot is more than 4 days overdue, service will be canceled* and the patron charged for a replacement kit. 8. If you leave the hotspot plugged in, it will damage the battery. It can actually inflate the battery thereby destroying it. - If you live near a no signal area, it will impact connection to the hotspot.
