A Research Institute for Public Libraries, RIPL, is scheduled for the Chicago area July 12-15, 2020. Find out details below and when you can register. This workshop fills up very fast so if you are interested in attending in Chicago or South Carolina be sure you register quickly. We will debut a new curriculum and format at this event, tailored to meeting the needs of those just getting started with data and evaluation as well as data geeks, and for people new to RIPL as well as RIPL alumni. Longer breakout sessions will enable participants to explore topics in more depth. What’s not changing? Hands-on, experiential learning; an immersive, camp-like experience (with better accommodations!); and the opportunity to connect with instructors and library staff from around the US and beyond who are passionate about creating data-powered libraries. We have a regional event this spring in Columbia, South Carolina (March 31-April 1, 2020). Microfiche and Magnifier

The Highland Library is cleaning house and has 3 machines available to anyone who wants to pick them up. We have a Minolta RP 603Z and 3M 500 Reader Printer. Neither of the machines will print anymore although people can still use them to view film or maybe someone would like one for parts. We also have a Optelec ClearView 500 magnifier to give away. If you are interested in having any of these machines please let me know. I am attaching some pictures to help you see what everything looks like. Please respond off list if you are interested. MiKidLib 2020-Save the date!

The 7th annual MiKidLib will be held at the Library of Michigan on Friday, May 15, 2020. MiKidLib is an unconference for people who work with kids and teens in libraries. Librarians, students, and retirees are all welcome. The program is free to attend, but lunch and travel costs are on the attendees. If you have not attended an unconference before, the attendees drive the sessions. Topics are suggested by the attendees and voted on by the attendees. Instead of a presenter in the front of the room, learning is done through discussion by the attendees. Past topics and notes are available on our web site at https://sites.google.com/site/mikidlib/. Registration will open soon and we will send out an email on Mich-Lib when it does.
