Browsing Collections like Magazines - Ideas?
by Kelli Perkins 11 Jun '20

11 Jun '20

I'm wondering if public libraries out there have addressed browsing collections like current issues of magazines for the post-opening future. Are you leaving them as is or revamping your procedures in order to eliminate browsing current issues? Looking for ideas. MI Library Quest - virtual event for teens
by Jennifer Perryman 11 Jun '20

11 Jun '20

Hello! You're invited to participate in MI Library Quest. A newly-formed group of librarians from throughout the state has recently begun meeting to collaborate on virtual teen programming. Our first project is MI Library Quest. The MI Library Quest is a virtual summer program open to all teens in the state of Michigan designed to encourage them to explore libraries across the state of Michigan. Teens will locate codes on the websites of participating libraries, tell us what they found, and enter those codes in the Dragon Eradication Inventory (Google form). All entries with at least ## codes are eligible for a chance to win fun prizes. (The number of codes required will be a percentage of participating libraries and will be determined after we have a final list of libraries.) The premise of the Quest is helping King Thaddeus Brockwright the Third rid the kingdom of the dreaded bronze dragon. Codes on each library's website will include items needed to accomplish this challenge. More information on the quest story is in the links below. MI Library Quest details: * The Quest will take place from July 1 through July 30. * The deadline for libraries to sign up to participate is Wednesday, June 17. * Information about MI Library Quest is in this video<https://michigan-host.zoom.us/rec/share/681VMI_x0n1OGZ3c0mLAapwGAoXjX6a81nR…> of the MiYouth meeting this week. The password is 7I.2@Rz6<mailto:7I.2@Rz6>. The Quest presentation begins at about 16:15. * A mock-up of the web page with information about the Quest is here<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FaTuhk9lOzrrjXbSRo-xjHxI7djoZSXM/view?usp=…>. The actual web page will be on the Library of Michigan's website and will be live on June 24. * Guidelines and procedures for teens and participating libraries are here<https://docs.google.com/document/d/15-sZdLJUTAP6V6iqa2IicsCfuzTq8BpcVul1TEN…>. Each participating library will: * place the MI Library Quest image and a library-specific code on their website * promote the event to their teens (Some promotional materials will be available from the Quest team.) * award at least one prize to a teen who is from your library and completes the Quest You are also invited to join our weekly meetings on Wednesday mornings at 11:00 on Zoom to collaborate on the Quest. 2020 Summer library programming survey news
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 11 Jun '20

11 Jun '20

Dear Summer Library Program Coordinators, The 2020 Collaborative Summer Library Program (CSLP) End-of-Summer Survey is in the works! While your summer programming is likely just beginning, it's important to think about the data you will report on in a few months. (No matter what your programming looks like this summer, or even if you used the #ImagineYourStory theme.) The 2020 CSLP End-of-Summer Survey will open on Monday, July 27, 2020 and will close on Friday, September 25, 2020. I will share the survey link in a future email. The survey will cover three age groups, Children's (0-11), Teens (12-18), and Adults (19+) [age categories as defined by the Institute of Museum and Library Services]. Questions will include: * How your library tracks participation in your summer library program. * Total number in each of the three age groups who participated in your summer library program. * Total number in each age group who completed the minimum goal. * Total number of summer library program themed events (includes virtual) for each age group. * Total number of individuals attending (includes virtual) summer library program themed events for each age group. * Ways your library adapted programming in response to the global health crisis. * Your suggestions, ideas and feedback for summer library program themes for 2022 and beyond. The CSLP survey questions are attached as a PDF (disregard the New Jersey specific Q's) for your reference. CSLP works with libraries to create an inclusive literacy based program that is enjoyable for all ages, provide a reproducible program with a unified theme, share resources and offer professional support. Your response to this survey ensures that we continue to receive a valuable product from CSLP. In addition, survey responses help state library staff support your library's needs. This program is supported in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Thank you, Cathy Lancaster Youth Services Coordinator Library of Michigan 702 W. He will be presenting on the topic of MOOCs, massive open online courses, and related issues such as how to access MOOC content in low-bandwidth areas, where to find free MOOCs on various platforms, and some samples as well. To review the notes and find the recording link to all our New Opportunities in Adult Programming virtual meetings visit our Google folder here: https://bit.ly/lm-adult (includes chat logs) We use the same link each time we meet and all the resources provided can be found in the Google document. You can add your own questions and tips to this as well to share with your colleagues. Join us online or by telephone here: https://michigan-host.zoom.us/j/98381393043?pwd=YkJJUkdGZFV5VEVvckVJY3g3R3h… Password: 340524 Telephone: 216 706 7005 OR 8664345269 (US Toll Free) Conference code: 579192 We hope libraries continue to build on the skills and creativity that they have exhibited during the stay at home environment. Creating new opportunities for library engagement in a virtual environment is still going to be necessary now and into the future. On Monday we will also be looking for feedback on the date, time and frequency for this virtual meeting. I need to move it away from Mondays and we want to hear how often you would like to have a virtual discussion around the topic of adult programming. Please let us know if you have questions.
