Re: [Michlib-l] Looking for a book
by Karen Becknell 18 Dec '20

18 Dec '20

Perhaps one of Dan Gutman's books. We think of him as a sports story writer, but he has written some historical books. One series is called Flashback Four where a photographer and 4 kids go back in time to take pictures of historic events. Another is the QWERTY Stevens short series, two or 3 books that take the reader back in time with historic people. Library of Michigan Continuing Education Stipends
by Reish, Karren (MDE) 18 Dec '20

18 Dec '20

As we move into the new year with events being virtual, please keep in mind that the Library of Michigan Continuing Education stipends can be used for virtual events. For virtual conferences or workshops, LM will reimburse the actual cost of registration for accepted applicants up to $500. With this funding opportunity consider attending an event virtually if you can. During these hectic times, it can help to learn from our colleagues about how they are handling the issues and needs of their communities. Finally, to allow for more flexibility for library staff, LM is temporarily reviewing applications monthly rather than quarterly. We will review applications from the previous month the first week of the next month. Applications must be for events that are AFTER the review date (last day of the month). Please read through the criteria at the link provided here to find answers to your questions first then apply at https://www.michigan.gov/cestipend. Some upcoming programs for library staff include: * MLA Surviving and Thriving as a Library Director<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.milib…> * Electronic Resources and Libraries 2021<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.elect…> * Find more to consider on this events calendar<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.infot…> Contact us with further questions you may have about the funding program. Jean Bolley, a Capital Area District Libraries Superstar, is retiring
by Duimstra,Scott 18 Dec '20

18 Dec '20

Hi everyone, Join me in congratulating CADL's Head Librarian at our Foster Branch, Jean Bolley on her retirement. Jean is and has been a truly exceptional librarian for our system. She's been with CADL since we formed in 1998 and before that, she worked for the Lansing Public Library beginning in 1973. Throughout all her years, she had a passion and talent for storytelling and storytimes. This stems not only from her experience as a librarian, but also from the fact that she has a master's degree in Education with an emphasis on storytelling. She built up our Foster Branch as the area leader for building early literacy skills for local families. There have been so many children in our area who started their literacy journey by attending Jean's storytimes. Along with all of Jean's fantastic work, she's also created a "farm team" of future librarians at Foster. We've had four staff members who've started as pages or library assistants and then moved on to get their degrees and into professional positions. We can't thank Jean enough for all that she's given to the Eastside of Lansing and to our entire area. Please read our post about Jean's career<https://www.cadl.org/about/who-what-why/blog/new-chapter-cadl-fosters-jean-…> and get a peek at her favorite titles for storytimes. Thank you Jean!!! AT&T Hotspots
by Mark Morton 18 Dec '20

18 Dec '20

I want to thank all that replied to my inquiry about the hotspots. I have a couple leads and I will let you know how it goes. Several of you passed along the information for Joel Bell (joel.bell100(a)t-mobile.com <mailto:joel.bell100@t-mobile.com> ) at T-Mobile so I thought I would give a shout out to him. He was the first person I contacted and he was great. T-Mobile had the best price and the best plan and they even sent me a test unit to try out. Unfortunately after taking the device around our service area I discovered we have very little T-Mobile cell coverage. So if you are thinking of getting hotspots for your library I suggest you start with Joel and then you will know for sure if it will work for you before you purchase. Mark Mark Morton Director Leland Township Public Library 203 E Cedar St Leland, MI 49654 231-256-9152 From: Mark Morton [mailto:lelandlibrary@lelandtownshiplibrary.org] Sent: Wednesday, December 16, 2020 12:32 PM To: 'michlib-l(a)mcls.org' <michlib-l(a)mcls.org> Subject: AT&T Hotspots We are looking to purchase a couple AT&T hotspots (they have the best coverage for our service area) and I am looking for a contact person. I had contacted them before and got shuffled through three reps and now they are not replying to my emails (I Cc all of them when I contact them). I'm guessing there is a shortage of devices due to the current demand but that is no reason to ignore me. So if you have someone you are dealing with at AT&T for hotspots that I could contact I would appreciate any information since they are pretty much my only option. Thanks!
