We are considering setting up tables outside and making chromebooks or laptops available to patrons for outside use only. Is anyone else trying this? Tennessee State Library and Archives is pleased to host a webinar Thursday, July 9th at 2-3:30 pm CST on Tackling Racism in Classic Children's Literature. We all know that there are outdated and racist classics on our shelves. These books reflect a homogenous past, yet they still thrive in an ostensibly multicultural present. How do we hold fast to intellectual freedom while solidifying our commitment to diversity and inclusiveness? Nashville Public Library spent a year asking that question and the resulting work can be replicated by other libraries seeking to apply an anti-racist lens to their collections. Program suggestion

Hello, On June 24th our Library hosted a very special guest over Zoom - Abraham Lincoln! Of course this was actually Lincoln scholar and look-alike, Kevin Wood. Mr. Wood offers 14 different talks on Lincoln. I opted for Abraham Lincoln as Storyteller. This was an amusing presentation that showcased Lincoln's sense of humor and his use of anecdotes and jokes in speeches and conversations. Kevin Wood has an impressive knowledge of Lincoln and was able to answer quite specific questions on a couple of rather obscure matters. He's comfortable with Zoom, uses backdrops of the White House, as it appeared in Lincoln's time, and Lincoln's presidential office and he does the talk in character, dressed as Lincoln. I appreciated the ease of working with Kevin Wood. He responded quickly to emails and was flexible (and gracious) when I rescheduled the program. Really an enjoyable experience and quality program! In this workshop, you will gain a foundational knowledge of how to leverage the capabilities of Zoom in order to facilitate effective and interactive Zoom meetings and events. We will examine various Zoom settings and built-in tools and how to decide which is appropriate for the meeting type and will include information on how to create a secure meeting. We will also share how to thoughtfully design the meeting to provide a productive and engaging experience for participants. This course will delve into steps for planning and facilitating an online meeting and some advanced features of Zoom. We will not cover the basics of setting up a Zoom account or attending a meeting. To participate in this workshop fully, participants should have a basic understanding of using Zoom for meetings and be familiar with how to access account settings. This will be a highly interactive workshop, and you will gain hands-on practice in using specific Zoom features to facilitate a virtual meeting.
