Attn: Library Directors - STEM Equity Library self-nominations needed.
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 16 Dec '21

STEM Equity Framework: Building Equitable, Inclusive Library Services That Address Community Needs Cornerstones of Science and the Maryland, Idaho and Connecticut state library partners, were recently awarded a Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian IMLS grant (250085-OLS-21) entitled STEM Equity Framework: Building Equitable, Inclusive Library Services That Address Community Needs. The goal of the project is to work with state and public library leaders to develop a shared definition and attributes of a STEM Equity Library. This includes developing the strategies and the training library directors need to build operational capacity that delivers intentional equitable science and technology library services able to serve all individuals and families from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. As a first step, they want to learn about the very good work that is already occurring throughout the country that they might learn from and build on. So, please complete this form<https://forms.gle/WA9gaMNYjFH3qysH6> if your library is providing excellence in either/both: 1) Adult programming and services around science-based issues of local concern (e.g. public health, water quality, food insecurity and environmental justice as examples). 2) Equitable, inclusive library programs and services for all members of the community. Please complete this form<https://forms.gle/WA9gaMNYjFH3qysH6> by Thursday, December 16th, and we will compile and pass your information along to the project. by Gallo, Biz (MDE) 16 Dec '21

16 Dec '21

The Institute of Museum and Library Services has extended DC Public Library's Memory Lab Network<https://memorylabnetwork.github.io/> to fund a grand total of 16 library partners. The application for our third and final cohort is open! Partners will be selected by the project Advisory Board to receive funding for equipment, training, and one-on-one mentoring to build a Memory Lab in their community. More information on the application and process can be found here<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.goog…>. Applications due: Friday February 4, 2022 Application awards notified: Monday March 7, 2022 Q & A on the application with Memory Lab Network Project Manager: Monday December 20, 2021 at 1:00pm-2:00pm (EST) Register here<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fus02web.z…> Friday January 7, 2022 1:00pm-2:00pm (EST) Register here<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fus02web.z…> What's a Memory Lab? A “do-it-yourself” program consisting of three key components: a lab with equipment for transferring audio and video and scanning photographs, documents, and slides in a public computing space; digital preservation class curricula and training for the public; and a website with equipment and workflow instructions and resources for long-term storage and preservation of analog and digital materials. What's the Memory Lab Network? In spring 2017, the Institute of Museum and Library Services awarded DC Public Library (DCPL) a National Leadership Grant to build Memory Lab preservation programs in public libraries across the U.S. based on the DCPL Memory Lab model. All Memory Lab Network partners receive training, mentoring and financial support to create digitization stations and curricula to build public knowledge and skills around the complex and paralyzing problems of personal digital archiving through their own Memory Lab programs. The project will result in open documentation and training materials for future implementations of the Memory Lab model on a global scale. How long is the Memory Lab Network project? Over one year beginning in March 2022, two staff members at each partner library will dedicate a combined 10 hours weekly to building the lab, teaching classes, and contributing to the project. The library is responsible for maintaining the lab once the project has ended in March of 2023. Biz Gallo Statewide Digitization Initiatives Coordinator Library of Michigan, 702 W. by Wartella, Becky (MDE) 16 Dec '21

16 Dec '21

January 7, 2022, 11:30:am-12:30pm (ET) - Successfully File Your FCC Form 470 Earlier this year, the FCC approved changes to the Form 470 drop down options so it looks dramatically different than in years past. The new drop-down options can cause confusion. We want to help libraries identify 1) if they need to file a 470 and 2) how to do so successfully. We will also discuss some best-practices, as well as the minimum expectations when running an E-rate procurement. Instructor: Mel Van Patten and Andrew Epting of E-Rate Central For more information or to register, visit the Event Page<https://libraryofmichigan.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/even…> (https://libraryofmichigan.app.neoncrm.com/np/clients/libraryofmichigan/even…) This project is made possible by grant funds from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) administered by the State of Michigan through the Library of Michigan.
