Children in Trauma Bibliography
by Lancaster, Cathy (MDE) 20 Dec '21

20 Dec '21

Children in Trauma Bibliography<https://libguides.govst.edu/childrenintraumabibliography> The bibliography was created by Dr. Megan McCaffrey, assistant professor in the Division of Education at Governors State University. Categorized by theme, the bibliography includes books that address traumas such as domestic abuse and bullying; general grief and loss; illness, anxiety, and depression; pandemics; poverty; and more. How to Navigate the Bibliography: Books in the bibliography have been listed in six thematic groups on the left menu. Clicking on a group opens a box where books are listed under individual themes. Often these will be items that are part of an incomplete set. We want to enlist Michigan residents to help fill out your state's collection to ensure long-term access to researchers across the state and around the world. Our first item is the Dearborn Navy News<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcatalog.li…>. The Dearborn Navy News was a weekly newsletter published by the U.S. Naval Training School located on land leased to the U.S. Navy at Ford's Rouge Plant in Dearborn, Michigan. The first issue was released on June 30, 1943 and highlighted the day-to-day activities of the school. The Library of Michigan only has a few issues of the publication and is on the lookout for other copies to add to the Library's collections. If you have copies of the Dearborn Navy News or other items to add to the collections of the Library of Michigan, call 517-335-1477 or email Librarian(a)Michigan.gov<mailto:Librarian@Michigan.gov>. Fascinating program suggestion!
by Journey Robinson 17 Dec '21

17 Dec '21

Just wanted to share an awesome, all-ages program we had in late November. Oindrila Bhar, a local dancer, presented a fascinating program about the historical and cultural significance of the Odissi dance from ancient India. She performed a few pieces, and between each piece connected the dance to both the historical context and her current-day life. This is a great cultural program for any community. Ms. Bhar may be reached at oindrilabhar(a)gmail.com. Librarian/archivist questions
by Alex Blanco 17 Dec '21

17 Dec '21

Hi, I was wondering how competitive the job market is for librarians and archivists. Is there a difference in how many jobs are open for archivists, public librarians, university librarians? What is the salary for public librarians vs university librarians vs archivists? What are the types of classes you have to do for a MLIS program and is reading and writing involved? Also do you have to like reading and writing to work at a library or in archives or is it more of like research type stuff? Thanks, Alex
