Hello Adult Services Librarians! Last night I hosted a *Self-Defense & Situational Awareness* program for adult women and teen girls at the Clarkston Independence District Library. We had 23 attend and from all accounts it was a huge success! I can highly recommend the instructors, 7th degree black belt, Sensei Cliff Laskosky and his colleague, 2nd degree black belt, Amy Pollack from the Okinawa Budo Kai School of Karate & Kobudo in Livonia, MI. Sensei Cliff and Amy make a great team and have a sincere rapport with the participants. They are available for programs in Southeast Michigan. Canton Public Library is seeking a Librarian Manager for our Collections Team to help advance our mission. At CPL, Librarian Managers play a vital role in directing the daily operations of the Information Services Department, where librarians: * Curate collections that support the informational, educational and recreational information needs of the community. * Create enriching and meaningful experiences for library visitors of all ages. * Connect patrons to the information needed to pursue their best life using research expertise and problem-solving skills. The person hired will facilitate seamless coordination of all aspects of collection development and maintenance and will play a significant role in ensuring the library's materials budget is appropriated and spent responsibly. They will partner with the Department Head and other Librarian Managers to supervise and coach the department's Librarians and Interns. Successful candidates for this position will be able to demonstrate good judgment, strong writing skills, and a passion for collection development, including an understanding of the current publishing and supply landscape as it impacts public libraries, as well as enthusiasm for data-driven collection analysis. Nominations for MCLS Board of Directors closes July 1

The MCLS Board of Directors Nominating Committee seeks nominations from the MCLS membership for the following Board openings for 2027-2029: * Special Library Representative (Indiana) * At-Large Library Representative (Michigan) * School Library Representative (Michigan) Each seat serves a three-year term, beginning Jan. 1, 2027, and expiring Dec. 31, 2029. The Board meets four times per year: in February (via Zoom), and in May, August, and November (in person), alternating between Indiana and Michigan. The November meeting includes a Board orientation and a two-day strategy retreat to review activity of the previous year, assess trends, and determine strategic changes to MCLS’s services and offerings. Newly-elected Board members are asked to attend this year’s annual retreat, Oct. 25-27, 2026. MCLS reimburses Board members for all direct meeting expenses. The MCLS Board follows the Policy Governance Model<https://www.governancecoach.com/policy-governance/> developed by John and Miriam Carver. New Board members will receive an orientation to Policy Governance the day prior to the Board retreat (Oct. 25). MCLS’s members are also its owners. The Board represents your interests as owners.
