Need Photos of your Library Signs

Take a walk outside on this gorgeous day and take a photo with your cellphone! We are looking for good quality photos of your LIBRARY SIGNS, whether they are on your building, or in front of your library. The photo should capture the exterior sign straight on, not at an angle; no trees/flowers in the way; no people; and the closer to the sign the better so we can read it clearly. We will do some cropping once we receive it to fit into the design. We’ve already got some great shots from our workgroup members, but are in need of more. While there are eight target areas in MCDM for students in 9th and 10th grades, Target 1: Career Clusters/Career Pathways suggests several topics for parent and student information forums, including choosing a college and scholarship submissions. With over 24,000 awards and scholarships listed, Scholarship Finder, available through Job & Career Accelerator<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=P…> by clicking the Discover Schools & Scholarships link, gives students the ability to search for fellowships, grants, and scholarships throughout the United States. On the landing page you can perform a simple search, entering a keyword such as Michigan to find scholarships associated with Michigan colleges or residents (there are 888 scholarships listed for Michigan). You can also enter terms like engineer or nurse to find scholarships specific to a particular career path. Through the Advanced Search tool, you can narrow your search even more by Affiliations, Athletics, Citizenship, Disability, Ethnicity, Interests, Military, and Special Conditions. School Finder, also available through Job & Career Accelerator<https://widgets.ebscohost.com/prod/customerspecific/mel/auth.php?database=P…>, allows students to match 2- and 4-year college programs to their interests. Additionally, the Advanced School Search tool can help specify Affiliations, Athletics, Community, Cost and Enrollment. Once you’ve identified a college that meets your interest criteria, then you can open the School Profile and learn everything there is to know about that college, including things like library holdings, student demographics, ACT/SAT scores of enrolled students, and even if there is day care available. The goal of the Michigan Career Development Model is to provide K-12 students with the knowledge and skills for success in the career of their choice. Registration is now open for Libraries Engaging Appreciatively for Positive Change (LEAP) 2021! On Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, library staff from libraries of all types around the state of Michigan will gather on Zoom for Libraries Engaging Appreciatively for Positive Change (LEAP) 2021! This one-full-day virtual event is a continuation of our partnership with the Library of Michigan and our shared Michigan Libraries Engage project. Last fall, LEAP 2020 gathered a cohort of 77 participants to learn and explore together, pivoting to Zoom due to the pandemic, and was a wonderful day which launched a dedicated cohort into a shared learning journey throughout the winter and spring. LEAP 2021 will introduce up to 100 more library staff members from all roles and all types of libraries to Appreciative Inquiry and how to apply it to community engagement. Here's what just a few LEAP 2020 participants had to say about the experience: I really enjoyed learning about Appreciative Inquiry. A lot of the techniques resonated with me; it was cool to learn about a well-established change management framework that so closely aligns to my approach to influencing change. This was *by far* the best-run online conference I've attended - well played! I appreciated that the interactions were not forced, and that there were clear goals set throughout with a logical progression through the material. I expect I'll use this learning at work, with our library community, and in my personal life with my spouse and my children! free online program, October 26, Technology and Testing of the James Webb Space Telescope

DPL is partnering with the Wayne State University Planetarium, with support from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, in a series of online programs around the launch of the James Webb Space Telescope. The launch is scheduled for December 18, 2021. This first program, presented by an alumnus of WSU's Mathematics and Physics programs, explores the engineering and testing of the telescope. The Northville District Library seeks an enthusiastic and innovative individual for a part-time position to serve as one of its Youth Services Librarians. Position: Youth Services Librarian 20 Hours per week, including some weekends and evenings This is a Union Position Salary Range: $23.79-$27.74 per hour based upon prior work experience Benefits: Paid time off includes sick, vacation, holiday, and personal business time. Essential Duties Include: • Participates in community and school outreach activities • Develops and implements a variety of youth programming including story times and other literature-based programming, Summer Reading, STEAM activities, crafts and hosting performers. • Develops and maintains youth collection areas by reviewing, evaluating, selecting, purchasing, and withdrawing materials • Provides reference, readers’ advisory, and library services support for users of all ages at the public Information and Reference Desks • Promotes informational literacy and facilitates learning in the library using a variety of techniques • Recommends changes in programs, services, and collections based upon new developments in the library field • Communicates effectively with staff and patrons • Serves as the Librarian-in-Charge of the building when assigned • Participates in Continuing Education opportunities • Performs related duties as assigned Required Qualifications: • Master’s Degree in library science from an ALA-accredited college or university • Possess a Level I or II Professional Certificate from the Library of Michigan.
