Tuesday, February 15, 2022 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM ET The Detroit Zoological Society is excited to bring to you a webinar centered on oceanic family fun! During the workshop, you'll receive professional development on using open-ended scientific explorations with your audience. You'll be guided through a series of activities that incorporate math and science to explore the properties of the ocean's salt water. The Library of Michigan is back on MeLCat. That means our Library Science collection is available again on MeLCat! We have been buying during the pandemic so there are new titles for you to look at. Feel free to contact me with any requests to add to the collection. The collection serves all librarians and library types in Michigan. If you need to find information on managing computers in libraries, supervising staff or volunteers, developing your library collection, managing digital collections, doing Storytimes, fundraising to enhance your budget, facilities management, serving special populations of patrons, standards for school libraries, etc., you can look here. Determining Contract Community Fees

HI all,Van Buren District Library has a community that has contracted for services for 30 years now. The deal that was struck in 1991 was for their population's annual penal fines, state aid, and an additional yearly token fee. While this deal may have made sense 30 years ago, now in 2022 this community is only paying pennies on the dollar as compared to what our residents pay in property taxes.For those of you who have contract communities, how did you determine a fee that was fair to both your taxpayers, and to the community to which you're selling services? Due to an internal promotion, the Ferndale Area District Library is currently seeking a new Youth Services Department Head. The ideal candidate will lead our extraordinarily talented and well-funded team of three full-time youth librarians as we manage our transition through, and hopefully out of, the COVID-19 pandemic. This position will work closely with library administration to develop and implement library-wide policies, as well as help craft and coordinate a busy year-round schedule of programming for children ages 0-18. We take pride in our laidback, fun, and welcoming work atmosphere, and encourage our staff to pursue projects that align with their own interests and passions. Find the event description below: Circa 50 CE the Romans founded the city of Londinium in the marshy Thames Valley, building the first iteration of what would become London. The city survived fire and rebellion, was home to up to 60,000 people and grew from a small trading port to the provincial capital of Britain. PhD researcher Ellen Green returns to BPL to explore what day to day life would have been like in the city and how archaeologists are able to reconstruct the urban landscape from what was left behind. Ellen Green is a PhD researcher at the University of Reading in England, specializing in human remains. Prior to her return to academia she was a field archaeologist in London for 5 years, and she has worked on sites from every period in the city's history. She developed a love of archaeology through many visits to Roman ruins and castles in the UK over many vacations, which inspired a fascination with the past. She is also a big fan of Indiana Jones.
