Remote work policy
by Kat Boyer 10 Mar '22

10 Mar '22

Hello all, Does anyone have an updated non-covid specific work from home policy that they could share? I want to implement one that is more general and can cover assigning work for people to do if we anticipate closing for weather, etc. Thank you. I am a little behind on other compiling (I have a note to myself to send emails to those that requested information on library subs and will be doing that next week), but I will send a compilation of this information out to anyone who would like it. Stinky Hotspots
by Tracy Logan 10 Mar '22

10 Mar '22

Hi All, When we started circulating tech, I never thought we would have to deal with the actual hardware picking up smells. Our I.T. Manager has advised us not to wipe the hotspots down with chemicals or to place them in the stank tank. She's concerned the kitty litter dust will be a problem. Does anyone have a solution for this? We're going to try a light wipe down with rubbing alcohol but if someone has wisdom to share, I would welcome it. Thank you! -Tracy -- Tracy Logan Library Director Cadillac Wexford Public Library 411 S. Lake Street Cadillac, MI 49601 231-775-6541 logant(a)cadillaclibrary.org

Has anyone hosted the Detroit Historical Museum?
by Jason Novetsky (Roseville Public Library) 10 Mar '22

10 Mar '22

We're working on program ideas for the summer and were considering hiring the Detroit Historical Museum to present a program: Our Island Jewel: Detroit's Belle Isle Park. It sounds like it would be a good program, but has anyone worked with DHM before either on this program or another? If so, was it a good experience? Did it go over well with your patrons? Any insight would be appreciated. Thank you. Jason Novetsky Community Relations and Marketing Librarian Roseville Public Library 586-445-5407

If you are having trouble viewing this mailing, please click here<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…> for our online version. [https://ala.informz.net/ala/data/images/UFL/ufl-newsletter-template/190403-…] [facebook]<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…> [twitter]<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…> MARCH 2022 President's Message [https://americanlibraryassociation.informz.net/americanlibraryassociation/d…] In the past several months, there has been a dramatic increase in challenges to library materials, programs, and access in school and public libraries. Adverse legislation is increasing in several states that would limit curriculum in classrooms and access in libraries - some would even remove longstanding legal protections that shield libraries and library workers from criminal prosecution for providing access to books and online resources to minors. We at United for Libraries are working to support all libraries in their efforts to fight censorship and support intellectual freedom. The United for Libraries Intellectual Freedom Task Force has organized a two-part webinar, "Keeping Governance on Track<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…>," that will be presented by the United for Libraries Intellectual Freedom Task Force on March 29 and 31. These webinars will be free to all, thanks to a bequest from the late Jack Neal. More information is below - please register and spread the word. In addition, the task force has launched two resources to support Trustees and libraries to prepare for program, material, and access challenges: "Terms and Definitions Related to Intellectual Freedom & Censorship<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…>" and "Materials Challenges: Key Library Policies to Review and Revise<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…>". <https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…>[https://americanlibraryassociation.informz.net/americanlibraryassociation/d…]<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…><https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…> More United tools can be found at "Trustee Resources for Program & Material Challenges<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…>," and ALA's "Fight Censorship<https://gcc02.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Famericanli…>" resource page includes further information on preparing for and responding to challenges, censorship legislation, how to support intellectual freedom, and more. Sponsorship contract
by Jacalynn Harvey (Roseville Public Library) 09 Mar '22

09 Mar '22

Good afternoon, Does anyone use a "sponsor contract" for organizations/companies that want to sponsor a specific program or series of programs in the library? I just had the promotions employee for a local charter school offer to sponsor some of our take and make projects (to promote her school, of course) and she wants me to send her a sponsor contract or agreement. We have a current donations policy, which I sent to her, but no sponsor contract as we have never needed one. If you use a sponsor contract, will you please send me a copy?
