National Voter Registration Day September 22 - Become a Partner!
by White, Shannon (MDE) 25 Jul '22

25 Jul '22

The 2022 National Voter Registration Day campaign has launched. WHAT IS NATIONAL VOTER REGISTRATION DAY? Celebrated every September, NVRD<https://nationalvoterregistrationday.org/> is a nonpartisan civic holiday celebrating our democracy. On September 20, 2022, organizations across the nation will join a coordinated effort to register eligible voters in preparation for Election Day. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT? Libraries are essential partners in civic engagement, providing access to trusted information, quality programming, and opportunities for dialogue. Many serve as designated voter registration sites, polling places, or ballot drop-off locations. NVRD provides training, information, and resources that make it easy and fun for libraries to host and promote voter registration. HOW CAN MY LIBRARY JOIN NVRD? Register your library to participate, receive information and resources, and join libraries across the country in celebrating NVRD. Sign up at bit.ly/ALANVRD22<http://bit.ly/ALANVRD22>. Find out more about how #LibrariesEngageVoters<https://twitter.com/search?q=%23LibrariesEngageVoters&src=typed_query&f=live> with resources from ALA: ala.org/advocacy/voter-engagement<http://ala.org/advocacy/voter-engagement>. Partners receive free stickers and posters, customized resources, and assistance in planning their celebration of the holiday. The form should take approximately 5 minutes to complete. As a partner you agree to... * Be nonpartisan. We can only work with groups who do not represent a party or candidate. * Be inclusive. Anyone who requests a registration form should receive one, regardless of party, beliefs, or other factors. * Be aware of your state's voter registration laws. This includes any training requirements and returning completed voter registration forms.. * Be non-transactional. You cannot give items of value 'in exchange' for a voter registration. Likewise you cannot restrict incentives to only those who register. * Have fun! National Voter Registration Day is a national holiday! mass max paperback shelving
by TJ Smith 23 Jul '22

23 Jul '22

We've always shelved our paperbacks on wire spindle racks for the massive linear foot to floor space ratio. It seems more publishers are moving to a new 'mass max' size for paperbacks (4.75" x 7" compared to the previous 4.125" x 6.75"; not the extra tall paperbacks, but a new wider paperback) and this size won't fit into the racks we have. What shelving do you use for paperbacks? Looking for input on what you like/don't like and things to consider while we begin looking at different shelving options. I'll post consolidated responses back to the list. Thanks! -- Ms. TJ Smith Library Director Sherman Township Library (989) 644-5131 ***REMINDER** Please update your contact information for me and remove the address that ends in shermantwplib.org <http://shermantwplib.org>.
