by Oster, Adam (MDE) 12 Feb '24

12 Feb '24

Hi All, As part of the Library of Michigan's role in supporting the development, maintenance, and promotion of local collections at libraries and historical organizations across the state, we have recently created the MiLocalHistory listserv to provide an online forum for local history librarians and other practitioners: https://mail3.mcls.org/mailman/listinfo/mi-local-history Participants are encouraged to use the listserv to: * Exchange ideas. * Stimulate conversation. * Ask questions related to the management of local history collections. * Offer duplicate or unneeded local history materials to other institutions or groups. Additionally, the Library of Michigan's website now has a section on Local Collections Guidance and Services: www.Michigan.gov/MiLocalHistory<http://www.michigan.gov/MiLocalHistory>. Along with information about the MiLocalHistory listserv, find content on Local Collections Consultation services that are provided by Library of Michigan Special Collections staff, links to organizations that support local history, recommended guides on local history, and details for donating materials to the Library of Michigan. Please share this information with your colleagues and any library staff who is interested. Thanks! Name Tags

Good morning, Library Land! I have to admit that I have never noticed, or don't recall having noticed, whether name tags are worn by staff when I go into libraries. This is a question that is going to be brought up at our meeting tonight, so I thought I would reach out to all of you and see how many libraries require their staff to wear name tags. Thank you in advance, Danielle Reid, Director Reese Unity District Library 2065 Gates St., PO Box 413 Reese, MI 48757 Phone: (989) 868-4120 Fax: (989) 868-4123

YA(?) book stumper
by Colleen Kingsbury 12 Feb '24

12 Feb '24

Hello all, I was approached by a patron over the weekend with a book stumper, and I was hoping the librarian hivemind could point me towards some leads! This patron was 18 years old, and he read the book about 4 years ago, so we're looking at a publication date of 2020 or earlier. He checked it out from his high school library, so we're operating under the assumption it was YA, but he wasn't sure. It's some sort of mystery/thriller, but the only thing that stood out in his mind was *the book is written in two altering perspectives and one is in second person*. He was hoping this was a memorable enough detail that someone would remember it. I know it's not a lot to go on, but if you remember any books along this line, feel free to send me the names! Best, -- *Colleen Kingsbury* | Teen Services Librarian Plymouth District Library | 223 S. Ceiling projector?
by Don Priest 10 Feb '24

10 Feb '24

Hi all, wanted to ask libraries with ceiling mounted projectors how those work. Toying with the idea of adding a couple to our meeting rooms, and I'm not sure how feasible that is. How are they hooked up for use? Do you need any other dedicated hardware (like a laptop) to use it? Would you say it has been worthwhile to have? Any suggestions or advice appreciated!
