MLA Conference Silent Auction
by Lisa Waskin 14 Feb '24

14 Feb '24

Dear Michigan Library members, I know it is a way off, but I wanted to put the word out that we are doing the Silent Auction fundraiser for MLA again at this year's conference at the Traverse Resort. The money we raise from the auction goes to help support libraries in Michigan dealing with Intellectual Freedom challenges, as well as the Scholarship Fund to help address our DEI initiatives. For the past two conferences, the auction has raised over $3,000 in funds to help support advocacy, DEI, and Intellectual Freedom for the libraries in our state. This year we are asking for donations from all of our libraries such as gift baskets, gift certificates, things uniquely themed for your area; as well as, a variety of items or adventures you may have, such as boat tours, overnight stays, sports events, movie tickets, dinners at your local restaurants - items that tie into this year's theme of fun, moving forward, and self-care. Even if you have smaller items, please consider donating. I am happy to put them together with other small items to make a whole basket. All money raised goes to help Michigan libraries and librarians through the efforts of the Michigan Library Association. Thank you, and I hope to see you all at this year's conference on October 16th - 18th in beautiful Traverse City. Sincere Regards, Lisa Waskin MLA AC2024 Conference Committee Lisa Waskin, District Director Superior District Library 541 Library Drive Sault Sainte Marie, MI 49783 Ph. One Week to MCLS's POP-UP Virtual Dialogue for Small and Rural Libraries!
by Lissa Krull 14 Feb '24

14 Feb '24

We had such a wonderfully collaborative conversation with small and rural Indiana and Michigan library staff in January, we wanted to keep the conversations going with a POP-UP Virtual Dialogue! We invite small and rural library staff to join us again on Wednesday, February 21 from 10:30 a.m. to noon Eastern (9:30-11:00 a.m. Central) as we dialogue around how we engage with and reach people in our communities. We all have a core contingent that use our libraries in various ways, but how do we go beyond our current patrons and supporters to reach others? MCLS Virtual Dialogues are not courses or webinars, but rather guided conversations with fellow library workers of different experience levels from all over Indiana and Michigan. They are a time to share your experiences and learn from each other. We hope to connect you with others who might be facing similar situations and can relate to your struggles and joys. We invite any staff member, of any role, in any small and rural library in Indiana or Michigan to join us on Zoom! Register today at 2024 MCLS Virtual Dialogue POP-UP Registration<https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZUvfuGpqz0uGdE76LqNjYH38b8rRpx0Os…>. Our Virtual Dialogues are designed to be as engaging and interactive as an in-person conversation. Participants should plan to have a microphone enabled and cameras on to participate.
