Question regarding fraudulent checks

Good afternoon, Have any other libraries experienced checks mailed to library vendors with remittance addresses in Atlanta, GA being fraudulently cashed? My library has had four checks sent to B&T and Cengage fraudulently cashed in the last six months. The three checks were mailed by the City of Roseville to the verified P.O. boxes in Atlanta and were cashed at both a large bank and a party store. Our library was notified by B&T and Cengage that they had not received the checks which our Controller's office verified were cut, mailed and cashed. After contacting the City's bank, Comerica, the City Controller contacted the local police when images of the checks showed that they were either "washed" with the payee name being removed with white-out and rewritten or signed by an unknow individual and cashed. Local police notified other agencies and fraud claims were submitted to the post office. The City also had two checks (Autozone and Firestone) that were sent to post office boxes in Atlanta cashed fraudulently recently. The City and Library will eventually be reimbursed. For now we are paying all invoices for vendors doing business through an Atlanta post office box by credit card as the City sets up ACH. Since most libraries use B&T and Cengage, I thought there may be other cases of fraud. National Library Card Sign Up Month Questions

Hi all, I am the new User Experience Librarian at Shelby Township Library. One of my first projects as the UX Librarian is to have a large event for National Library Card Sign Up Month in September. I was told in the past NLCSM has not been promoted that much in the library or by the township. My reasons for doing a bigger event are we were closed because of Covid, then closed for construction of a new building, then we reclosed due to a burst ceiling pipe. We are finally completely open, with our gorgeous new building. As a result, many of our patrons do not know we have a new address or that we are open to the public again. My questions are: What kind of changes in foot traffic did your library see during NLSCM? Times of day when it was the busiest, depending on location and community makeup? What kind of goodies did you use to promote the sign up month? How does your library do library card creation; paper applications, patron facing computer, online cards? As a librarian new to this role, what nuggets of wisdom to people have to share for Library Card Sign Up Month. Call for Presenter Recommendations for upcoming Adult Services Presenter Showcase

Dear Libraryland, I've been collecting responses to a survey regarding holding a virtual (possibly hybrid) presenter showcase this fall/winter with a resounding 100% yes from TLN respondents. Because of this, I'm going to go ahead and ask for recommendations for presenters to be considered for our consortium presenter showcase that we typically hold annually. The projects have been successfully completed. Thank you to everyone who participated! The MI-83 Technology, Libraries, and Communities (TLC Kits) Project provided laptops for patrons to borrow from libraries, critical to addressing the digital divide. In addition, this project provided programming materials to libraries for outdoor and digital events, allowing libraries to safely deliver services and events to their communities. The MI-83 Digital Library Connection (DLC Project) safely provided digital access to non-fiction information and resources (ebooks and audiobooks) in direct response to the pandemic and related economic and community needs through equitable approaches. Libraries have always played an essential role in communities and their role is more imperative now than ever before. Portland District Library Part-Time Job Opening

The Portland District Library is seeking a part-time library clerk to work in our youth department. This employee will be responsible for a weekly storytime, and other youth programming as needed. Other duties include processing books, ordering materials, helping patrons meet their information needs, and other tasks that go along with working in this busy library. The successful candidate must enjoy working with babies and toddlers, have a friendly and positive attitude, and be able to multitask and follow a project through from conception to completion. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older, and have a high school diploma.
