ACH Policies
by WCCL Amy Stockwell 26 Feb '24

26 Feb '24

Hello, Does anyone have an ACH/electronic payment policy that you willing to share? Slowly we started paying more bills automatically via ACH or online electronically due to rising postage costs and ease of payment with the vendor and I realized that we don't have a board policy authorizing this. I am hoping someone already has a fantastic one that I can borrow from. Thanks! Amy

Re: [Michlib-l] Loaning out VR kit
by Lisa Boyd 24 Feb '24

As a personal owner of an Oculus Quest 2 with four kids, it is an absolute pain and very involved to log in/log out, and you must have a Facebook account/Meta to operate it. If you have tech-savvy folks willing to help patron, give it a shot as it would be a unique offering for your community. If not, you might face a headache with privacy and operation concerns. Here is the bookmark we use at home for swapping accounts<https://www.meta.com/help/accounts-center/add-remove-accounts-accounts-cent…>. Everything Meta requires the Internet. Note: I have not used this in a library use capacity and am not particularly tech-savvy. We have an Oculus Quest that I'd like to let people check out, but I'm not really sure how to make it work. It's easy enough to have a list of the pieces and make sure it all comes back, but I'm not sure what to do in regards to other concerns, like making sure patrons don't download new software, clearing out any personal data, sharing login information if it's needed, things like that. If you loan out headsets, and have some advice, or practices you follow, I'd appreciate hearing from you. I'll share the compiled answers with the list in a couple of weeks. I'm sure more people will be interested in the answers. Headsets aren't exactly cheap, but there are good ones that aren't really expensive either, I can imagine them ending up in a lot of collections within a few years. Upcoming Presentations from the CMU Libraries
by Whitledge, Bryan R 23 Feb '24

23 Feb '24

The Clarke Historical Library at Central Michigan University has two programs in the next week that might be of interest to people across the state. Attached are two virtual flyers for those who are interested. On Tuesday, February 27, we will host Dr. Melissa Croghan speaking about her Michigan Notable Book Award-winning work, Great Women of Mackinac Matriarchs of Mackinac connected with one another across class and ethnic boundaries, and established a civic society that islanders depend on today. Overlooked in history, these town leaders were both Anishinaabe and white. Inventive and persevering in a time when they had few rights of their own, their dramatic stories serve as role models today. This ONLINE program begins at 7:00 pm and will be broadcast via Webex, CMU's virtual meeting platform. Register for Dr. Croghan's presentation with this link<https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=brxxyMZ8V0qk6yIwn8NJY5q…>. Then, on Thursday, February 29, join the Clarke Historical Library as we welcome noted rare book dealer, Rebecca Romney, to the auditorium in the CMU Library of an in-person presentation. Ms. Romney will present, "Collecting Children's Books: Where We've Been, Where We're Going, and How You're a Part of It." Children's books reflect their times, places, and cultures in endlessly interesting ways-and children's book collecting reflects our own values as we consider what should be preserved and why. This lecture will provide an overview of the basics of book collecting with a special look at the past, present, and future of collecting children's books: which stories we value, how we tell stories through collecting, and how these books' stories intersect with those of our own. The program, which serves as the opening of our newest exhibit, Enchanting Collections/Collecting Enchantment: The Lucile Clarke Memorial Children's Library. begins at 7:00 pm and a reception will follow in the Clarke Historical Library.
