Re: [Michlib-l] Killers of the Flower Moon dvd?
by Dominic McLaughlin 28 Feb '24

For my part, we do get patrons at my employer asking about KotFM and I'm not surprised at this. By comparison, "The Irishman" was distributed by Netflix and exclusive to its service, which surprised me when it actually came out on physical media (Wikipedia article quote: "...[it] received director-approved special edition DVD and Blu-ray releases by The Criterion Collection on November 24, 2020"). I also had the same reaction when the films "Prey" and "Pam & Tommy", both originally exclusive to Hulu, came out on physical media. My personal estimate is that <10% at most of films on Netflix and other services might see a physical release. However, when it comes to anything to do with Apple and their films, I've learned not to hold my breath in general for any. We still have patrons asking about the Tom Hanks movie "Greyhound" from 2020 and it's the same type of issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Apple_TV%2B_original_films Dominic McLaughlin Technology Services Librarian/Adult Services Romeo District Library 586-752-0603 x4

Re: [Michlib-l] Michlib-l Digest, Vol 112, Issue 25
by Megan Novak 28 Feb '24

Hi Barbara, We used to have an air fryer in our Library of Things collection at the Royal Oak Public library, but we removed all of our cooking items because they were either returned dirty ( we do not have a dishwasher here and so there is no way to properly sanitize items that are returned this way). Also, many of our items like cookie cutters did not circulate very well. The air fryer that we had did circulate, but it was not always clean upon return. I suppose if you have a dishwasher at your library and a system in place to check for items that are returned dirty and to clean them, then it might not be a problem. We decided not to keep them. Hope that helps a little! :) Best, Megan Novak MA, MLIS Librarian Royal Oak Public Library On Wed, Feb 28, 2024, 12:02 PM <michlib-l-request(a)mcls.org> wrote: > Send Michlib-l mailing list submissions to > michlib-l(a)mcls.org > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > https://mail3.mcls.org/mailman/listinfo/michlib-l > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > michlib-l-request(a)mcls.org > > You can reach the person managing the list at > michlib-l-owner(a)mcls.org > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Michlib-l digest..." > Today's Topics: > > 1. We are looking for extra metal shelving that you no longer need. The size we need is 7 3/4" deep by almost 36" long. The attached picture is for reference (not the actual depth we need). Storywalk Inquiry
by Autumn Smith 28 Feb '24

28 Feb '24

Good morning Library Land! We have an amazing opportunity to partner with our local Great Start to install a permanent Storywalk. We need our Village Council to sign off on the project since it will be placed on Village property in a local park. The Council has voiced concerns about the annual operating costs and concerns that Storywalks could one day fall out of favor and decline so drastically in popularity that removal of the infrastructure would be necessary. I am reaching out to any library who has a permanent Storywalk who is willing to share their experience. What is the annual operating cost of a Storywalk? How long have you had a Storywalk? Have you developed a method to get a rough estimate of how frequently the Storywalk is utilized? What has the Storywalk experience been like in general for your library and community? Were there any obstacles or are there any ongoing issues with the Storywalk? Any and all information is greatly appreciated as we work to bring this exciting and enriching opportunity to our community. Thank you for your time and have great day!
