We are planning a Festival of Stories throughout October, and am having a difficult time finding someone who could present a program on traditional storytelling. We do have funds for a stipend (Thanks to Michigan Humanities Council!) We are located in Northern Michigan just north of Traverse City, and can pay travel costs as well. Michigan Library Association Silent Auction info

The Michigan Library Association (MLA) will be hosting a silent auction at our Annual Conference October 18-20, 2023 in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the MLA Scholarship Fund and MLA's Equity Grant Fund. We are asking for donations of any kind to this auction: library bling, vendor give-a-ways, new books, posters, a weekend stay in a fabulous location, basically anything which could either stand alone as an auction item or could be placed in a basket along with other items. The Administrative Assistant to the Library Director prepares agendas, takes minutes, and keeps official records of the Library Board in accordance with applicable laws. Minimum Qualifications include: * High School diploma and 3 - 5 years’ directly related experience and/or training as an administrative assistant or secretary in a high-pressure, time-sensitive environment. * Ability to organize work and set priorities. * Ability to be thorough and accurate with detail work. * Ability to handle and maintain sensitive and confidential information with utmost discretion. * Ability to work with little direction. * Ability to concentrate and remain focused and to take accurate minutes during long meetings. * Experience working in a Windows environment; advanced MS Word skills; intermediate MS Excel skills; beginning MS Access and advanced Power Point skills, or equivalent presentation software. * Ability to quickly learn other software packages as needed. * Experience with e-mail, internet, laptop computing, and working in a networked environment. * Knowledge of HTML and web editing. Sending this on behalf of the novelist John Smolens. He's a retired English professor from Northern Michigan University. His most recent novel *Day of Days* was a Michigan Notable book. I would describe his books at literary and historical. He will be below the bridge to promote his next book * A Cold, Hard Prayer * on October 19 at the Heartland Forum for Bookselllers - He plans to be in the mitten part of our state for a week or so either side of the Heartland Event.
