Position: Youth Services Librarian (Part-time) Reports to: Youth Coordinator Hourly: $18.00 per hour Benefits: 3 personal days per year and contribution to a 457 plan after 1st year. Hours: Up to 28 hours per week, includes days/evenings and rotating weekends The AHPL is seeking an enthusiastic, customer service focused candidate to join our Youth Services team. Qualifications: · Masters degree in Library Science from an accredited institution. · Experience working in a public library. · Experience working with youth including outreach to schools desired. · Strong organizational and time management skills, and the ability to work independently. · Proficiency with emerging technology. · Ability to maintain effective relationships with staff, and work in a team environment. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills. · Successfully pass a background check & pre-employment screening Primary Job Duties: · Emphasis on service, with strong ability to communicate effectively. · Assist library users at the Youth Services Desk. · Develops and implements creative programs and services for youth · Shares the responsibility for displays and bulletin boards in the youth area. · May attend relevant workshops and meetings. · Perform other duties as assigned by the Youth Services Coordinator Physical Demands: Must be able to sit, bend, and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to reach, and carry books or boxes of books, push book carts, use the telephone, lift, push, pull objects weighing up to 40 pounds. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY Position Summary The Garden City Public Library is a Class 5 library with a service population of over 27,380. Our Library values providing excellent customer service through a wide range of programs and collections, in a welcoming and inclusive environment for visitors and staff. The Adult Services Librarian contributes to advancement of the Library’s Mission; performs the independent application of professional library techniques and procedures; assists the public in the use of the library and in locating and obtaining various materials; instructs and assists patrons with the library’s electronic resources, catalog, Internet, and computers; maintains and develops the adult materials collections; plans, prepares, promotes, evaluates, and oversees the adult library programming; and gathers statistics on Library usage. Required Qualifications Applicants for this position should possess: • A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science (or the equivalent) from an ALA accredited university. Persons actively pursuing an MLIS degree (or equivalent) may be considered. • Level 1 or 2 Professional Certification from the Library of Michigan preferred. • Skill and competence at the Intermediate level or higher with computers and computer programs including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Apps, Internet Explorer, and Integrated Library Automations Systems (familiarity with TLC CARL preferred). Benefits Part-time employees of the Garden City Public Library receive Paid Time Off (PTO) and Holiday Pay prorated based on their normal work schedule. Frank Lloyd Wright dollhouse

We have a Frank Lloyd Wright made dollhouse up for grabs. We have had it in our library for a few years and shared with our branches but we need to make room and would like it to go to a good home. There is some furniture which is included. It does need a table to sit on (current table is also available) and will need a couple of people to lift and carry. A van or truck would work better. Good Afternoon Everyone - Please spread the word: Phyllis Michael Wong, author of We Kept Our Towns Going: The Gossard Girls of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula will present at the Dexter District Library, Sunday, June 25, 2:00 p.m. as part of the Michigan Notable Books Author Tour. As Michigan’s Upper Peninsula mines & forests became depleted, the Gossard undergarment factories helped to sustain the local economy. The women who sewed the corsets and bras became known as the Gossard Girls. From the early 1900’s until the 1970’s, the Gossard Girls helped to support their families and keep the town going during war, depression, and labor strikes. From cutting cloth and distributing materials to getting paid and having fun, Phyllis M. Wong gives us a rare view of factory life from the women on the sewing room floor. Registration is optional. Good Morning! I am excited to share that registration is now open for our 2023 UPRLC Annual Conference. The conference will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023 and Thursday, September 14, 2023 in Sault Ste. Marie. A half-day of session will be hosted at the Bayliss Public Library on September 13, followed by a full day of conference keynotes and sessions on September 14 at the Cisler Center on Lake State University's campus. Wednesday events will include lunch provided by the Friends of the Bayliss Public Library, a trustee roundtable with the Library of Michigan and a team building session with staff from the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services. Thursday will begin with our opening keynote speaker, Kristin Fontichiaro. The afternoon will include a keynote panel discussion and 3 breakout sessions between 15 options.
