Public Comment on Proposed MDE School Librarian Standards
by Reish, Karren (MDE) 06 Feb '24

06 Feb '24

Good afternoon, please see below for information on proposed preparation standards for school librarians from the Michigan Department of Education. MDE is looking for public comment on the standards now through March 10th. The direct link to submit comments is Online Survey Software | Qualtrics Survey Solutions<https://mde.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4I8Ha7ALEPN7CUS> for those interested in providing comment. Karren Reish Library Grants Coordinator Library of Michigan 517-241-0021, www.michigan.gov/lsta<http://www.michigan.gov/lsta> Public Comment on the Proposed School Librarian Preparation Standards The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) requests public comment on the Proposed School Librarian Preparation Standards. These proposed standards support goals 2 and 7 of Michigan's Top 10 Strategic Education Plan by defining the knowledge and skills that school librarians (an area of shortage relevant to credentialed staff in Michigan) should possess to support PreK-12 learners' literacy development and inquiry skills across multiple disciplines of study. The proposed standards would replace Michigan's current Standards for the Preparation of Teachers of Library Media, adopted by the State Board of Education (SBE) on March 13, 2012. The proposed Standards for the Preparation of School Librarians were presented to the State Board of Education on January 9, 2024. A video of the meeting is available online at Michigan State Board of Education Meeting for January 9, 2024 - Afternoon Session (youtube.com)<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bhsx5NYjMXE> and the presentation begins at the 15:19 mark. The public comment period for these standards is now open through March 10, 2024.

Library accounting software
by EMAIL TEAM 06 Feb '24

06 Feb '24

Dear Librarians, I am inquiring as to the accounting software that library's are using. We are a class II library and have been using QuickBooks Pro Premiere for many years. It seems that the Desk top version is going to be discontinued this year. I am looking at other alternatives at this time and am open to suggestions. We have to be mindful of the cost and ease of use. I appreciate the input from other small libraries. We are nor in a position to afford an outside accountant, just for our annual audit.
