We are also doing some spring cleaning. I have two genuine HP 128a color toners, one black and one yellow. Program vetting
by Deb Hemmye 23 Apr '24

23 Apr '24

Hi all, Do any of you have written policies regarding what kinds of programs you will allow and how your vet your presenters? I'm referring to library programs, not rentals. If someone approaches you about doing a program at the library, whether free or for a fee, how do you vet them? Do you have something in writing that your staff can follow in order to ascertain whether or not the individual or group is worth having? If you're curious, this is why I ask: tomorrow we are having a special children's storytime called Jewish Folktales (we have a very high Jewish population in the two communities we serve). A Rabbi reached out to us and said that he does storytelling as a side hobby (he's free) and would love to do some storytelling for us at the library. When one of our city commissioners (we are a municipal library) saw the posting, she became very concerned because, according to this commissioner, the Rabbi belongs to an "ultraconservative, proselytizing Jewish sect" and she is questioning our willingness to have a program leader who did not come recommended and who, in fact, reached out to us. And that's where we're at. Thanks! Deb Hemmye Library Director Huntington Woods Public Library 26415 Scotia Road Huntington Woods, MI 48070 248-543-9720, ext. 686

Form for touring a Library
by Andrus, Miriam 23 Apr '24

23 Apr '24

Hello Library Land, We frequently host tours for various groups at our Library annually. Do you utilize a form for schools, civic organizations, or preschools to submit when requesting a tour appointment? We want to improve our tour scheduling process by moving away from email. Any suggestions or ideas to enhance this workflow would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, -Miriam [cid:image002.jpg@01DA9596.F7B24760] Miriam Andrus Director, Grace A. Dow Memorial Library 1710 W. Program Recommendation
by Brannon McCullough 23 Apr '24

23 Apr '24

Hello Library Peeps, Last week, the Commerce Township Community Library was visited by Emily Cord Duthinh who presented “Finding Edith: Surviving the Holocaust in Plain Sight.” The program is based on the book of the same name which tells the story of her mother, the late Edith Mayer Cord. It’s an incredible story of survival, and one of the rare Holocaust stories to include family pictures to go along with the story. As a presenter, Emily tells her mother’s story with passion, and seems genuinely proud to carry on her mother’s legacy. I highly recommend this program, especially given Emily’s rare perspective as the daughter of a Holocaust survivor. She accepted an honorarium from our library, but contact her at this email for more info: Eduthinh(a)yahoo.com -- Brannon McCullough (he/him) Adult Services Librarian Commerce Township Community Library 180 E.
