Happy Thursday to you all! Has anyone had an excellent experience with a Donor/Memorial Tree company constructing a tree of life-style design or wall to honor people? And if so, what criteria or policy do you have to govern which names are displayed on the wall? Is it for monetary donations, years of service to the library, local veterans, etc? Looking for display cabinets? Westland Public Library has these metal, wood, and glass display cabinets. (2) available to first available to pick up only. The measurements are 26" x 26" square and 5" high. They are quite fragile because all sides are glass. There are extension metal webbed sides for displaying items that are also available. Free to a library that could use them. Contact Sherri West by email, please. A scheduled time will need to be set up for moving will require our maintenance to be available in the building that day. Sad news

Good Afternoon Everyone, I am sad to let you all know that our security guard, Henry Ford, was shot and killed in the parking lot of the Hoyt Library in downtown Saginaw yesterday. The shooter never entered the library and drove away fast after it happened. The police station is across the street from the library and it didn't take them long to make an arrest. The shooter was Henry's brother-in-law and it was a family dispute. I want to clarify, at no time were any library patrons or staff a target and nobody else was hurt. We followed our active shooter procedure and it worked. Please be prepared and review your procedures with staff. You never know... Also, please consider offering an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) for your employees if you don't already. We work with Child and Family Services in Saginaw and they have been amazing. I made one phone call today and was able to contact a grief counselor who will meet with us tomorrow to help us process our grief and fears. Individual IEP sessions will be available for people who want to talk one-on-one with a counselor. EAP services are confidential and free for employees. MI-OST grant peer reviewers wanted

For those who do not receive the MASP email newsletter, peer reviewer applications are open for the 24-25 MI-OST grants. I did this last year and it was a great experience and I learned a lot about grant writing by reviewing applications. 2024-2025 Grant Peer Reviewer Application Michigan Department of Lifelong Education, Advancement, and Potential (MiLEAP) Office of Education Partnerships, OST Grants Program, in partnership with Michigan Afterschool Partnership (MASP) calls for grant reviewers to assist with the 2024-25 Out-of-School Time Grant Application selections. **Free** Stackable Bins at Grace A. Dow Memorial Library for Libraries and Educators

Hello Library Land! The Grace A. Dow Memorial Library has several hundred colored, stackable bins that we'd love to offer to fellow libraries and educators across Michigan-completely free of charge. These bins were originally part of a lunch program and are in new condition, perfect for various organizational needs. If your library or organization is interested, feel free to stop by anytime during our open hours to pick up a few. The bins are located on the 2nd floor near our administrative offices. Computer Use Policy

Does anyone have a computer use policy that is different from your internet use policy? I am finding that our "computer and internet use policy" does not fit when patrons are using the internet on their own devices. The policy says that parents are responsible for their child's internet use, but if they are using their own device (mostly phones), we are not requiring a parent permission form like we had been when they are using our computers. I think we need a separate policy for using our computers. Do we need one when we have open wifi that is available even when the library is closed? (Note: this policy is from 2016.)
