The initiative aims to revitalize the Alternative Basic Library Education program to reflect changes in library technology, standards, and practices. The project will replace the outdated series with a new set of courses focusing on essential library services like collection development and maintenance, cataloging, and delivery of programming and services responsive to community needs. PPL collaborated with library staff in Georgia and Texas to develop data analytics programming. Using the newly developed skills and the Data for Good (D4G) curriculum, participating library staff were able to bring their knowledge to local community members, organizations, and colleagues. The onboarding of a new employee can and should be SO much more than signing paperwork and one week of training. By viewing onboarding as a process over time and planning with purpose, libraries and other workplaces can create positive experiences that lead to more satisfied staff and higher retention. Library staff from all library types and roles are invited to a Virtual Dialogue on Thursday, Sept. 19, 10:30 a.m. to noon Eastern (9:30-11 a.m. Central).
