Greetings-- The Bloomfield Township Public Library is seeking a professional and resourceful Clerical Assistant to provide support to patrons at the Computer Help Desk. Bloomfield Township Public has a service population of 44,000+ people. There is strong community support for the Library and its collections, services and programs offered. Technology is integrated into Library services. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to providing quality service to the staff and the public and the desire to work in a collaborative, team environment. POSITION TITLE: IT Clerical Assistant (Computer Help Desk) DEPARTMENT: IT, reporting to IT Department Head HOURS: Part-time, 15 hours weekly. Includes evenings and weekends; Sundays paid at time and one-half in addition to the 15-hour schedule. WAGE & BENEFITS: $16.35 - $22.69 per hour, per hour with increase possible upon successful completion of three-month orientation. Employee assistance program (EAP). [Americans and the Holocaust exhibit programs] ________________________________ Michigan Yearbook Collection Project The Library of Michigan continues to collect yearbook donations as part of its Michigan Yearbook Collection campaign. Generous donors from all over Michigan and beyond have contributed to what will be a comprehensive collection of Michigan high school, college/university, and vocational school yearbooks. A fascinating aspect of the project is seeing the influence of national and international cultural events on the design of school yearbooks. For example, the Egyptian Revival style brought by the discovery Tutankhamun's tomb in 1922 introduced Egyptian imagery to architecture, textiles, jewelry, and several other areas, including yearbooks. These are Corunna High School yearbooks from 1925 and 1928 represent that influence through the graphics and use of calling the yearbook The Sphinx. Program activities where you require the Presenter to have Liability Insurance

Not wanting to reinvent the wheel, I'm hoping someone might have a good list of program types that you would require the presenter to have liability insurance before presenting? Question about F & P leveled books

Our library purchased F & P (Fountas and Pinnell) book sets and re-cataloged children's books in the F & P leveling system, in conjunction with the elementary school, as they were using the system at the time. They have since stopped using F & P leveling but we kept it, as it was an easy reference for our parents to help them find just right books for their students. I am behind the times and didn't realize there was a movement to stop using the F & P leveling system. Are other libraries opting out of the F & P leveling, did you never jump on that train in the first place ? We are just trying to decide whether to re-catalog those books. Federal Grant Freeze

Michigan Library Community, This week, the federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB) issued a memo ordering a pause in the disbursement of federal funding, effective at 5:00 p.m., January 28th, while federal agencies evaluate the compatibility of this funding with the administration's priorities. This memo included LSTA funds allotted to the Library of Michigan (LM) by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). LM uses LSTA funds to support MeL, subgrants to libraries, continuing education stipends and other statewide library services and resources. On January 29, the federal OMB rescinded the memo. While this has been a rapidly changing, and confusing situation, IMLS has informed LM that, at this time, we may continue activities related to our federal funding as normal. Contracts related to MeL including the MeL databases and MeLCat, were already paid for the current fiscal year, ending on 9/30/2025, prior to the "pause" and any "freezing" of federal funds would not impact the delivery of these services during this fiscal year. Please see Dr. Rice's press release attached for more information issued by MDE. We will be monitoring the situation and sharing information as it becomes available. r. Current posters are still compliant, so new sets are not necessary at this time. However, as we all know, there are big updates scheduled for late February 2025. Woodlands is taking orders now <https://forms.gle/PnZXZekNbqP9rS2N8> so that we'll hit the ground running when the new posters are released. Updating your posters ensures that your library stays compliant with the required State and Federal Labor Law postings for the coming year. You'll be notified via email if any updates occur, with a .pdf attachment to print and post to remain compliant immediately. That will be followed by a new poster or a matching sticker, whichever is most practical at that time. Not sure if your library needs this? It does. Every workplace does.
