Costumes and Cartoons
by Emily Vander Ark 07 Jan '15

07 Jan '15

Hi everyone, I am looking into doing a program during summer reading with costumed superheros for kids, and a separate program for teens that is something like a cartoon/comicbook drawing class. Does anyone have any recommendations of costume groups or cartoon artists for programs like this? Thanks so much, Emily -- *Emily Vander Ark* Youth Services Bridgman Public Library 4460 Lake Street Bridgman, MI 49106 269-465-3663

RIDES issues-anyone else?
by CDL Director 07 Jan '15

07 Jan '15

Over the last few months we have experienced multiple issues with RIDES that we just can't seem to get cleared up. The driver was leaving a tote or two at one of our branches on a regular bases. It seems as if he doesn't have enough room in his vehicle. It's been a few weeks since a tote was left. Now we are seeing materials that were packaged in dedicated boxes, opened and thrown into the totes. This includes audio books and dvd's. My guess is that he doesn't have room for the boxes. Since we are a PACK library, we are very careful about following protocol. Attached are a few pictures of what we are seeing. The first picture shows brand new books sent out from the main branch to the New Lothrop branch tied in twine. These were sent packaged with a correct label. We have received a couple complaints from other libraries about their materials being damaged, and we apologize if this has happened to you. We are trying to get this situation corrected. -- Jami Cromley Library Director Community District Library 989.743.3287

Program recommendation
by natalie bazan 06 Jan '15

I've had several wildly successful soap, lotion and lip balm classes in both Hopkins and Dorr and I asked her if she would like to work with other libraries. If you are thinking about a bath and body class or just soap, give Rachel Sadowski a call. She's working in the Hopkins area right now but is willing to travel and often goes to the east side of the state to visit family. She has a company called Dancing Crane Soap & Sundries on facebook. She provides all the supplies and instruction. You have to provide boxes and newspaper to wrap the soap in so that it cools down slowly. Rachel.A.Sadowski(a)gmail.com269-591-0494 If you have any questions, give me a call. Natalie Bazan MA, MLIS Library Director Hopkins District Library Dorr Township Library 118 E. Group Home Residents
by Jaema Berman 06 Jan '15

06 Jan '15

Dear Colleagues, I wonder if you have any policies that limit patrons living in group homes that differ in any way you treat general patrons. We have a group home who's residents come together to our library frequently to check out DVDs. We have a policy that limits 5 DVDs per Family. It's been suggested that we limit group home residents and treat them like a "family" because they share a household. I believe that they should be viewed as individuals and treated individually. Has any of this come up in your day to day considerations. Sincerely, Jaema -- Jaema Berman Director Addison Twp. Public Library 1400 Rochester Rd.
