Michigan History books available from Benzonia
by Helen Dewey 08 Jan '15

08 Jan '15

Michigan Libraries - Benzonia Public Library has older Michigan history books available to other libraries for free (MeL Delivery or you pay postage). The list is attached. Please reply off list to me, Helen Dewey, rhdewey(a)charter.net, if you want any of these books. The library was started in 1925 in the historic Mills Community House. These books were in the early collection (Mills Community House Library), and they have been stored in the library’s Michigan Room for many years. Now we are renovating the Michigan Room and don’t have the space to continue to keep them. We would like them to find good homes where they will be appreciated. (The Board would love having our little library acknowledged if you accept the books.) Helen Helen Dewey Treasurer Benzonia Public Library Board rhdewey(a)charter.net

Calling Community Anchor Institutions in Michigan
by White, Shannon (MDE) 08 Jan '15

08 Jan '15

We need the help of all Community Anchor Institutions (CAI) in Michigan to answer a short questionnaire regarding broadband adoption. Institutions include K-12 schools, universities, libraries, hospitals/emergency medical facilities, and public safety facilities, and the information you provide data to the Connect Michigan map. Survey is here: http://www.connectmi.org/cai-data The survey will ask for: * Name and contact info * Institution * Address * Internet access (Yes/No) * Internet speed (You can get your speed by linking to the speed test if you don't know it. This link is found in the survey.) It should only take about 3 minutes to complete the survey. Thanks for your help in maintaining data on broadband access in the state of Michigan. sdw ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Shannon D. E-Rate: Critical Information for those libraries who will fit the budget definitions for urban libraries
by Norris, Sonya (MDE) 08 Jan '15

08 Jan '15

We learned from the SLD today that given the late announcement in the Second Modernization Order regarding the increased rate for those libraries that fall into the budget definitions for "urban" libraries ($5.00 per square foot rather than $2.30 per square foot for Category 2 services), they were unable to get the necessary form changes made to accommodate this change and still open the window next Wednesday, January 14. They are, however, working on making those changes and expect to have form updates available 7-10 days after the window opens. Applicants with libraries as recipients of service who may fall into this category have two choices: 1. They can wait until the updated form is made available before submitting their Forms 471 (FWIW, that would be our consultant at EdTech Strategies recommendation so that application processing proceeds more quickly and easily during PIA review), or 2. They can file their forms when the window opens and before the revised form is available in which case those libraries who would be eligible for the higher rate would be flagged during PIA review and the budget changes would be addressed with applicants at that point. I think we probably all agree it was smart not to delay the opening of the window-especially since the window length is a little shorter than previous years and given the challenges we will all likely face in filing applications this year.
