Magazine suggestions for 6th grade boy??
by K. Koskela 08 May '15

08 May '15

Hello, Sorry if you're getting hits twice through cross posting. One of my teachers tutors a 6th grade boy and his mom asked for reading suggestions for him, specifically in magazine form at grade level. As a girls' high school librarian with grown children, I'm at a loss. I have looked at NoveList, mostly because we heard a great presentation from an Ebsco rep at our recent MAME 17 spring meeting. I know they provide Lexile ratings on many books, read-alikes, and a multitude of ways to search and limit searches. I will show this to the teacher for sharing with the parent. However, NoveList covers books, which the parent said he is reluctant to read, hence my request for magazine suggestions. If you have any suggestions to pass along, please email me off list and I will compile a hit list and share it! Thanks for your collective wisdom and experience. Hi, do any of you maintain a list of tutors available in your community? We are considering compiling a little database of available tutors with contact info and subjects covered. Please answer off-list if you have any experience with this. We wouldn't be recommending any particular tutor, just making the list available. Cromaine District Library Needs EVEN More applicants for Adult Services Manager and Youth Services Manager positions
by Ceci Marlow 07 May '15

07 May '15

Now it is even MORE important that we find innovative and skilled problem-solving folks to be our full-time Adult Services Manager and separate full-time Youth Services Manager. Our second attempt at a $12 million renovation and expansion failed at the election polls on Tuesday--55% opposed to 45% in favor. We can and will get the renovations done--we've been saving for a while and the reduction of staffing due to reduced hours after November's failure has saved more. But not being able to expand and closing Crossroads to the public is likely to be a real challenge for all of our staff, but especially our managers. We need lots of "out-of-the-box" thinking. Please check out the postings and job descriptions at www.cromaine.org. If you are qualified and interested, send your cover letter and a resume (application can follow) to brentola(a)cromaine.org today or tomorrow. Deadline is Friday, May 8. ceci
