Book Donation Request - 20 books on Becoming a Consultant and Organizational Development for a Michigan Library
by Corey Seeman 11 May '15

11 May '15

Hello everyone - I hope this finds you well in your corner of the state - and that the roads are smooth as silk. OK - well, just the first part. I have been working with a Ross alumni member in the Royal Oak, Birmingham, Southfield area who has some books to donate. There are 20 books focused on the career path to becoming a consultant and organizational development. As many know, the Kresge Library no longer has a print collection (save for a few hundred titles) as a result of space downsizing related to the construction project at the Ross School of Business. So we cannot take these ourselves. The alumni member would ideally prefer that these items are donated for the collection, and not the book sale. I do not have a list, but I can connect any librarian to the alumni if anyone is interested. If you are interested, please write me and I will forward your name to the donor. Thanks in advance for your consideration. Best - Corey Corey Seeman Director, Kresge Library Services (http://www.bus.umich.edu/kresgelibrary/) Stephen M. unionized staff at public libraries in Michigan
by Sheryl Mase 08 May '15

08 May '15

Hello All, I am making a report in Counting Opinions of libraries that have unionized staff. The reports are made by selecting libraries, so I selected those that wrote back to me letting me know they have unionized staff and then made a report with other data from the annual report, but the list of libraries is the key data - those in the chart responded to me that they have unionized staff of one type or another. I am not getting more specific than that at this point, but wanted to share what I have so far with you all. I did hear from a number of libraries that are NOT unionized, but chose to list the ones that respond that they DO have unionized staff. Here is the link: http://www.countingopinions.com/pireports/report.php?4ea59397dcd07f45fc4ba9… If you have unionized staff and do not see your library listed, please let me know and I will add it. ~Sheryl ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sheryl L. FOIA Policies
by Margaret Bentley 08 May '15

08 May '15

I received a few responses on my request for FOIA policies, and many more requests to compile the information. Most libraries are still working on this issue. Their responses are compiled below. Only the St. Charles District Library responded that they have a new written a policy at this time. Additional responses: We are looking here at LM to see if we can provide a template or more instructions for district libraries since that group is left on its own to share or reinvent the wheel. Spring Lake District Library is purchasing the packet of information prepared by Attorney Dick Butler which includes a board resolution and all the forms needed as well as procedures and guidelines. The requirements to comply with the law are complex and the penalties for failure to comply are substantial so it’s worth it to us to get these documents prepared by our attorney. If anyone wants to contact Dick to get more information his email is rbutler(a)bsmlawpc.com. Have the three of you seen the information on Anne Seurynck’s [ASeurynck(a)fosterswift.com <mailto:ASeurynck@fosterswift.com>] package on this? She’s put together a package of all the documents, policies, procedures, etc. you need plus a resolution for your Board to pass. The package cost of $350 includes a telephone conference with her to answer questions and help you customize the documents for your circumstances if necessary. You can reach her at the email above or through Foster Swift Collins & Smith PC, 1700 East Beltline, NE, Suite 200, Grand Rapids, MI 49525, Phone: 616.726.2240, Fax:517.367.7196. She also has a free webinar at the Foster Swift website. Thank you, everyone, for your help. Right now we are planning on contacting Anne Seurynck for her package. -- Margaret Bentley Adult Services Librarian Shiawassee District Library--Owosso 502 W. Main Owosso, MI 48867 989-725-5134
