Using a free, online curriculum developed as part of the project, they will share tips and ideas to consider when planning the who, what, when, where, how, and why of a digital project. IRS Tax Forms

Hello Michigan Library Hive Mind! I've got a question about printing tax forms for our library patrons. Even though we don't receive any federal forms for our patrons, we have printed them off from the IRS website in the past. Today, when a patron requested form 1096, I found the PDF on the IRS website, but it includes a warning that the form cannot be printed and scanned. Instead, it asks the user to order the form. Does anyone know why this would be? Is this only the case with certain forms? MeL Minute - Responsive Design and more

Hello everyone, Until recently, I had never heard the term "responsive design" in any context let alone regarding databases and websites. I've come to find out it "... is an approach to web design aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing and interaction experience ... across a wide range of devices" (per Wikipedia<https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Responsive_web_design>). Why mention this? Because, more and more of the MeL Databases<http://mel.org/Databases> are now rendered in responsive design which means users can view them on a desktop computer, tablet, mobile device, or smartphone with equal ease and functionality. In December, 2015, MeL Database Kids InfoBits<http://www.galesupport.com/migeoipcheck/migeoipcheck-gale.php?database=ITKE> was updated to a responsive design. Just this week, Chilton Library<http://galesupport.com/chilton_branding/splashPage.php?loc=lom_accessmich> (vehicle repair) has been optimized making it "... accessible at home, in the field, or out in the garage." Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness travelling exhibit

Northern Michigan University’s Olson Library has been selected to host a new traveling exhibition, Native Voices: Native Peoples’ Concepts of Health and Illness. Produced by the National Library of Medicine, the free exhibition explores the connection between wellness, illness and cultural life through a combination of interviews, artwork, objects and interactive media. It will be on display at NMU Feb. 3-March 17. The exhibit will be available for viewing during Olson Library’s regular hours of operation, which can be viewed at www.nmu.edu/library. In addition to the library, NMU sponsors of the exhibition include the Center for Native American Studies, the School of Nursing and the department of Sociology and Anthropology. Two programs are scheduled, both open to the public. A panel discussion, "A Lifetime of Native Health" will be held on February 18th from 4-5:50. This will serve as our official opening with reception to follow. The second program is a decolonizing diet cookbook release party on March 8th from 4-6 http://library.nmu.edu/nativevoices/ We aren’t the only library in Michigan to be hosting this exhibit (just, surprisingly, the first). The Alpena County George N. Fletcher Public Library is scheduled in October 2017, and Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College is scheduled in April 2019. Latest update from Heather Case at MI Treasury:Our distribution vendor will begin shipping tax materials to libraries tomorrow (1/29/15.) We had a delay in printing the home heating credit book (out of our control) and the books were recently completed. Libraries can expect to receive their materials next week. Debbie Gallagher

reference collections

Hi I'm wondering what others have done with collections of MI Compiled Laws, Michigan Administrative Codes and Michigan Manuals? It looks to me like the compiled laws are available only back to 2013 on the state's page and public acts back to 1998 and the manuals back to 1999. Any input or advise from those of you much more knowledgeable would be appreciated!
