short discounts with Michigan contract
by Maureen Derenzy 08 Apr '16

08 Apr '16

Has anyone who uses Ingram as their primary vendor noticed that they are receiving only a 10% discount on titles from major publishers? For example, we received only a 10% discount on the heavily promoted Rise of the rocket girls (Little, Brown). When I questioned the discount, I was told "This book falls under 'Text, Technical, Reference, Small Press' titles, which under their Michigan state contract is 10%." Today, I received more books with a 10% discount (DK Publishing, Penguin Books), so I went back through invoices received since the beginning of 2016 and found many others (Crown, Norton, Houghton Mifflin) that are not technical books, but rather books marketed as basic non-fiction. My sales rep is working with me on this, but I wanted to know if this is affecting only my library or all Michigan libraries. Maureen Maureen Derenzy, Library Director Otsego County Library 700 S. Reminder: Library Camp Unconference at AADL - Friday, April 15
by Sara Wedell 07 Apr '16

07 Apr '16

Reminder to all library folks out there - you are invited to attend Library Camp: An Unconference next week! It takes place Friday, April 15, 2016 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. This event is intended for information professionals and graduate students with an interest in libraries. It's an informal, unconference-style gathering intended to bring people to share ideas, technologies, and to spark discussion. Library Camp is free to attend and will be held at the Downtown Library at 343 South Fifth Avenue, Ann Arbor, MI. It's not too late to attend! Just click here to register . The goal is to get a bunch of people together, and let them talk about whatever they'd like to talk about, within the rough purview of libraries and library technology. We'll start with a blank schedule and start the day with a discussion of topics we'd like to talk about to fill in the agenda. We've got time for four sessions and room for at least 4 concurrent sessions, so there could easily be 10-12 different things to talk about during the day. Bring your ideas and quandaries. AADL staff will be on hand to help with directing the conversation, but like any unconference, the event is led by whoever shows up! Further details are at: http://www.aadl.org/libcamp16 . See you Friday, April 15th! Sara Wedell Production Librarian | Ann Arbor District Library wedells(a)aadl.org | (734) 327-4225
