MeL Minute: BritannicaSchool MeL (Michigan) Support Website
by Biggs, Deb Renee (MDE) 23 Mar '17

23 Mar '17

Hello Everyone! In the Michigan eLibrary's (MeL) Promotions & Training web pages, (http://mel.org/promotions) you will find links to all of the content providers and support and training for the resources found in MeL. This week's MeL Minute highlights support and information for BritannicaSchool from Britannica Digital Learning. BritannicaSchool is an excellent resource for young children through adults. Not only does it contain content from the Encyclopedia Britannica, but much, much more--videos, photos, maps, podcasts, interactives, leveled reading and lesson plans. You can find support and training for this resource in MeL at http://mel.org/index.php?P=MeLGateways&ParentId=238 On this page you will find videos, recorded webinars and a link to Britannica's Michigan MeL support website: https://britannicalearn.com/state-access/welcome-michigan-educators/. On this page, you will find additional on-going webinar training opportunities as well as links to on-demand recorded webinars for BritannicaSchool and the Learning Zone. There are also guided tours, and other downloadable promotional and training materials. BritannicaSchool is a great resource to recommend and use with homeschool families as well as schools that public libraries may be working with in their service areas. School librarians are using BritannicaSchool and this is also a fine resource for education liaison librarians in academe to recommend to their faculty and pre-service teachers. Don't forget the teacher Michigan code: mel5 to register for a free educator account which enables one to create resource packs, use custom designed lesson plans and much more. There are no additional log-ins needed to access BritannicaSchool or any of the MeL subscription resources; we use geo-authentication for seamless access, so make learning fun! MeL databases are available to Michigan residents or Michigan library access only. MeL Minutes are brought to you by the Library of Michigan. Want more information on MeL? Stay tuned for the next MeL Minute available on many Michigan library listservs, email us at contact(a)mel.org<mailto:contact@mel.org>, visit http://mel.org<http://mel.org/>, or Sign up for the MeL Minute and other Library of Michigan e-mail lists via GovDelivery<https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/MILOM/subscriber/new>. We encourage you to share MeL Minutes with your colleagues and networks. Digitizing board minutes
by Katrina Schultz 23 Mar '17

23 Mar '17

Hi, My director is interested in digitizing the library board minutes from the past few decades. If you have digitized your board minutes or are in the process, what did you put the files on (a thumb drive, a hard drive, CDs, etc.)? Did you make the files searchable (for example, being able to search individual documents for different topics and keywords)? -- Katrina Schultz Library/Technical Staff Crawford County Library
