This position is posted at the request of Gina Edwards, President of the Board of Trustees, Sodus Township Library. The Sodus Township Library is currently accepting resumes and seeking a highly qualified applicant for the position of Library Director. (approximately 26 hrs/week) The Library Director reports directly to the Board of Trustees and is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Library operations to efficiently and effectively serve the public needs. We are seeking a candidate with strong communication skills, computer literacy and progressively responsible library service. Our World Book databases are some of our most popular, with Early World of Learning nearing 100,000 retrievals for March alone! Try out their reading section where users can dive into both classics and World Book originals to read along and practice their comprehension skills. The Trek's Travels section is a great early literacy resource with topics covering shapes, sounds, colors, and other fundamentals in both English and Spanish. At the bottom of each story is a list of related topics, whether videos, encyclopedia entries, or other stories, that allows children to continue to learn more about the story they just read. The games section of the website has even more options, including "Put the Story in Order" games that test reading comprehension. Don't have a lot of time for in-depth training? [MDE Logo] News Release Contact: Martin Ackley, Director of Public and Governmental Affairs, 517-241-4395 Bill DiSessa, Spokesperson, 517-335-6649 Braille Enhanced StoryWalk(r) Programs Offered at 32 Local Michigan Libraries April 9, 2018 LANSING - Thirty-two public libraries statewide are blending indoor and outdoor activities in a literacy enrichment program called the Braille Enhanced StoryWalk(r), the Library of Michigan (LM) announced today. The second-annual StoryWalk, a collaboration of the LM, Michigan Department of Education's (MDE) Low-Incidence Outreach (MDE-LIO), and Braille and Talking Book Library (BTBL), is a fun, educational activity designed to inspire parents and caregivers to take young children outdoors to engage in literacy and physical activities. "By including braille, local libraries help embrace accessibility and equal access to information," State Superintendent Brian Whiston said. "We encourage families to explore these stories by touch and reading aloud." He said the 32 libraries offering this year's StoryWalk are encouraged to collaborate with local parks and recreation departments on where to display it. The Beginning Workshop is a 3-day event geared for library staff members that have not had the opportunity for formal library coursework. Its aim is to introduce library staff to a variety of topics and offer them practical skills that they can use working in a public library. Anyone new to the profession or just hired at a library, no matter what their academic credentials, is welcome to attend the event. For those seeking an initial Level 3 or Level 4 certificate from the Library of Michigan attendance at the entire Beginning Workshop is obligatory.
