Michigan Statewide Survey of Digital Preservation Programs - REMINDER

Please excuse any cross-posting. ***************************************************** This is just a reminder to institutions residing in the state of Michigan who classify themselves as a library, archive, museum, gallery, historical society, research center, or other similar organization. There is still time to fill out this important survey on digital preservation. Attached also is a PDF of the full survey if it helps to coordinate responses from multiple people in your organization who may be working on your digital preservation efforts. Read on below. Thank you! Grand Valley State University (GVSU) Libraries in coordination with the Library of Michigan, the Michigan Council of Library Directors (COLD), the Midwest Collaborative for Library Services (MCLS), Michigan Academic Library Association (MiALA), archives (Michigan Archival Association), and museums (Michigan Museums Association) is distributing this electronic survey to our statewide cultural heritage institutions. If your institution resides in the state of Michigan and is self-classified as a library, archive, museum, gallery, historical society, research center, or other similar organization, we would like your help. The survey is designed to gather information about the status of your digital preservation program and to determine readiness and interest for engaging broader collaborations across the state and within the surrounding region to further your institution's digital preservation efforts. This is exploratory work. You may not directly benefit from this research; however, we hope that your participation in the study will improve our state's capacity to respond to the preservation needs for ensuring ongoing access to our shared digital heritage. GVSU Libraries will make a report on the survey findings publicly available in early 2019, and with the help of our coordinating partners, use the findings to guide further exploratory work at the state level. You will be asked to read completely and agree to our consent form before beginning the survey. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary and you can withdraw at any time. The survey can be filled out by multiple people at your institution, but it is strongly encouraged that staff with the most knowledge of the institution's digital programs take the lead with completing the survey whenever possible. Not sure where to start? Looking for new ways to integrate primary sources into your instruction sessions? This workshop focuses on integrating and using primary sources in classroom assignments, information literacy sessions, archival tours, learning labs, and more! Archivists, special collections librarians, and teaching faculty from three Michigan institutions will speak on their experiences and provide hands-on demonstrations to give you the skills you need to do this at home. The Library Director performs professional level work under the general supervision of the Library Board of Trustees. Disc repair machines

We have been looking at optical disc cleaning and repair machines. We have a single-disc unit and are interested in something that would process several discs at one time, but it's been difficult to find anything out there other than the high-end systems that clean 50+ discs and are way beyond our means. Looking for used security gate

We are shopping for a new security gate to use for our tattle tape system here at the KCAD Library. As many libraries are moving away from tattle tape to RFID I thought it would be worthwhile to check with the list to see if anyone has an old electromagnetic security gate that is not in use and you'd be willing to sell.
